The four Knights!
One of the maxims that I heard and read as a beginner was that one should develop knights, before bishops. The logic here is that it is often more obvious in the opening where the knights should go, while there are more options for the bishops. Where possible, we don’t want to make two moves and lose tempo, when one would have done the job. One of the effects is that the four knights game, which sees the early development of the knights to c3, c6, f3 and f6 is a commonly seen opening, as was the case in this game.
In this game, I started with a Vienna game, the Max Lange defense. However, I decided to play a little more positionally by developing my knight to f3, transposing to the four knights game. I had another video titled “Tricky Trappy Knights“, and in this game, the knight was definitely the MVP of the match!
I hope you enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching!
