Beat a GM

Beat a GM

Just now, the most wildest thing has happened to me in my chess career so far: I played a GM on chess.com... and won.

Everything about this is just surreal. I actually haven't been playing rapid in over a month, and instead, I've been playing 3/2 blitz like crazy, especially the past 2 days. The result hasn't been too great. Needless to say, I knew I had to stop wasting time playing too many blitz game and start playing longer time control games again.

So I logged onto Live Chess to see who has a challenge open, and I see a someone in the 1900s. It was GM Mihai Suba. Immediately, I recognized the name. I had seen a book written by him, although I haven't read that book myself. The first thought that came to mind was, "Is this a real GM? I've never seen a GM opening a challenge on Chess.com". But the fact that he had the red GM tag next to his name meant that it is real him. 2nd thing that surprised me was that his rapid rating in this site was pretty low. I would think that a GM would have something like a 2300+ rating on this site, but I don't know what the deal is.

I know next to nothing about GM Suba other than he wrote a famous book, so I don't know how old he is or why he is playing 15/10 games on Chess.com. But needless to say, I knew this would be a lifetime opportunity, because so far in my life, I had never played a game with a GM, either online or OTB. I had to seize this chance.

Wow, what in the world just happened? Seriously... What in the world just happened?
This is so surreal, words can't describe it.
Ok, I googled who GM Suba actually is, and turns out he is 70 years old now.
But STILL!
Oh man, this motivated me so much. Talk about never giving up when losing. I really need to play more rapid and less blitz. I had the same resolution last summer, and I will do it again this summer. This will go down as my biggest win in Chess for a long time, possibly (but hopefully not) forever.
