Awesome Book Series!
I bought the book series on Chess by IM Yasser Seirawan:
Play Winning Chess
Winning Chess Tactics
Winning Chess Strategies (Revised)
Winning Chess Combinations
Winning Chess Openings
Winning Chess Endings
Yasser writes as if he is just talking to you in the room. Humerous, informative and immensely instructive. I have many chess books and enjoy them all, but these are so easy to read and do not bury you in tons of move lines (1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6...etc). Yes he does have you follow along games, but after each move, he explains what was going on. Rarely does he list more than 2 moves without some sort of explanation. He teaches you from the perspective of what he had troubles with as a chess newbie and how he was thinking. Some of these books are written along with my other favorite author IM Jeremy Silman. Both Yasser and Siman try to teach you how to think about chess, and how to show you what your mind tries to tell you about the board, the positions, and how to better "mentally verbalize" the situation (quotes mine).
The summary above is based on "Play Winning Chess" and "Winning Chess Openings". I suspect the others will be similar.
So for you folks that are looking for books to improve your game, these are a winner. I would say that even if your rating is much higher than mine (very easy to do lol) these books will help you! Even the Play Winning Chess, which is an entry level primer on all things chess, I learned a few things.
I hope this blog has helped you. Let me know what you think and if you have the books. I would be interested to see if you have enjoyed them as much as I have.
