change of plan on my next book
change of plan - I've gotten thru 2/7th of the "How to Open a Chess Game" and I'm going to put it on hold a while
it's got a lot of good tips - but they all sound like something I've heard in a Dan Heisman Novice nook - there is no doubt in my mind there may be one or two gems here in the 1970's, but I think other material can handle it better right now - I do like the references to Bobby Fischer and him being called World Champion however :)
And going thru 40 pages of variations that are rarely played (like the ruy lopex exchange or trompowsky) - is just not my thing right now
and here's the number 2 reason - I choked a winning rook endgame tonight - for all my talk on playing winning openings, I've never studied endgames either - and I don't like losing and drawing won games -
I'm also feeling like not changing up my openings right now - I feel the ones I play I can get a lot better at if I try to study them instead of putting new effort into other ones - so we'll see how that goes
Instead I'm going to crack an endings book - I don't know if I'm going to pick a basic end all (Chess endings - essential knowledge by averbach) - a programmed rating one - (silmans complete endgame course) - or one specializing in specific games - (minov's a practical guide to rook endgames) - At this point obviously rook endgames are likely my most likely ending - (and what I've botched more than not) - so I'm going to see what we can come up with there
