Surprise Weapon: Topalov's 3 h4!?; Part 1
A look at the aggressive 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 g6 3 h4!?, recently employed by Super GM Veselin Topalov, and the specialty of GM Simon Williams for many years. It's best feature is rendering a Grunfeld set-up quite risky for Black, and thus leading Grunfeld players into waters where they are less comfortable.
Covered in Part 1 are attempts to play the Grunfeld (3...d5?! and 3...Bg7 4 Nc3 d5?!) and the critical Pseufo-Benko Gambit (3...c5 4 d5 b5!), played by Giri against Topalov the other day.
