Beginner's Perspective of the World Chess Championship

This was my first time watching/following the World Chess Championship and I'd like to share my thoughts and perspective as a beginner chess player.

Lots of draws

First up, let's talk about the obvious: draws. I had heard a lot of chat about the 2018 WCC and how they drew all 12 games. Going into this WCC, I expected to see a lot of draws so I wasn't too put off by the result of the first 5 games.

Game 6 was amazing

Now let's talk about Game 6. Man. Game 6 made me fall in love with chess all over again. It truly felt like a battle between two titans and seeing Magnus show off how "insane in the endgame" he really is was a sight to behold. Not to mention a record was broken for the most moves ever played in a World Chess Championship match (which may sound like it was a long and boring game but it was exactly the opposite). I absolutely loved it.

Seeing Ian blunder was sad

After Game 6, seeing Ian fall off was sad. I've heard so much about how great of a player he is and seeing him play too fast in certain situations was hard to watch. Kudos to Magnus of course for his excellent gameplay and for closing out the match.

Interview panel felt weird

Lastly, the interview panel. I didn't watch all of it and honestly it just felt unnecessary. I especially felt bad for Ian. After a crushing loss, he has to sit down and try to answer questions in another language and try to act professional while doing it? I think they should remove the whole thing. Maybe some interviews individually or a panel at the end of the entire match would make more sense.

Conclusion

All in all, it was an excellent event. I really enjoyed watching the matches and it got me much more excited about chess in general.
