Cen10 Tournament
Any one reading this may be asking what the Cen10 Tournament is. It's an unofficial tournament I played in yesterday with my chess club. Cen10 is looking to join a chess organization, and playing against us determined if they will or won't.
In this tournament, the TD had originally planned for it to end at 5 PM, but in the end it ended at 4 PM since Cen10 had to be back by 4:30 PM. That's fine by me, I made new friends and got to play new people. I plan to play with those people again on chess.com as well, they're not bad by any means.
In fact, we played 3 rounds (due to shortage of time). I ended up losing two of my matches. I was also tired and couldn't think for the life of me at the time. So let's get right into it, shall we?
Round 1. I was not looking at the full board and blundered my rook and knight queenside. I couldn't believe it and resigned 53 moves later.
Round 2. I dominated. I didn't blunder this time. I moved my pieces carefully and thoughtfully. Towards the end of the game, I sacrificed my rook to promote a pawn. Worked like a charm. I got my queen and my rook back shortly after the sacrifice. Then checkmate followed pretty soon, too.
Round 3. I dominated the opening and middle games, but the endgame lacked. I'm weak in my endgames. I blundered my queen while in check (I originally thought it was mate, hence the blunder) and then avoided checkmate for 54 moves??? I don't know how, I guess I'm simply squirmy. I will get checkmated, but only if I don't resign first (Resigning can sometimes be strategic). In this game, I resigned before I got checkmated. I knew I would, only one more move for him and he'd have me mated. So I resigned.
These people were chill, the president runs a pretty good chess club (Overall score between the two clubs was 13-14, my club hardly won). Speaking of the president, it was him I played in Rounds 2 and 3. He's not a bad player.
If the president of the Cen10 Chess Club happens to find this, here's a note for you. Don't panic. The look on your face gave away moves I could've made rather than the moves I did play. Remember to keep a poker face during a game of chess. Also, when castling, though it's funny, move your king and rook in one swift move. Don't tap the king against the board multiple times. It can get counted as a distraction (such like talking and laughing can).
