Quebec Open and first otb game vs GM!!!
Hey guys! I hope your summer is going well :)
I know you haven't heard from me in a while. You can also see my increasing number of timeouts!
Recently, I've been spending my time on vacation in Ontario as well as on a site that I discovered called lichess.org. That site has caught my heart. Go try it!
Another main event was the Quebec Open, the largest tournament in my province.
This year, it was merged with the 3rd edition of the
Rencontres inter. des échecs francophones
which basically means the Francophone Championships. Unlike the usual format of five sections, this year there was only an Open and U1600 section, with prizes for the top 3 U 2200, U2000, U1800, etc.
The championship was divided into the 3 FIDE time controls: standard, rapid and blitz. 3 separate events.
I was seeded below average for all three events, but I managed to place better than my seed ranking. In the standard main event, I had 4W, 4L and 1 D for 4.5/9. In blitz I had 4W 5L 2D or 5/11 and in rapid I had 3W, 3L and 1D. So almost even!
I didn't win anything, but I did get the chance to play with titled players! It is quite intimidating, but they're chill people and the postmortem analysis was very insightful. Too bad I faced him in round one though
After this tournament, I'll be FIDE rated! I'm projected to have a rating of about 1900 for the three time controls.
Ususally I would make a longer blog for such an event, but I do not have the patience anymore. Summer has gotten to me!
