Anyone have any good annotated games they could share? Happy for written or video analysis -- looking to be led through some of the themes if anyone has good resources
Hi all. Apologies for not being active. Unfortunately, I do not play the Benko Gambit so I'm not as familiar with this opening anymore. However, I will try my best to host many daily Benko Gambit only tournaments for those who are interested. Here is the link to sign up: https://www.chess.com/tournament/benko-gambit-no-vacation Please note: NO VACATION. Thanks
What do you guys think of the recent book Perunovic? I've heard that it has a flawn in that one of his suggestions can be avoided by a specific and common move order, and that he doesn't cover it. Sadly, I don't remember which one
e6 goes into the Blumenfeld Gambit. It's quite a lot of fun but you should probably look at a few games in it first (e.g. Tarrasch-Alekhine 1922). bxc4 is not usually a move to play in the Benko as White gets the pawn back easily with e4 and Bxc4 and is positionally better, while Black still has the a-pawn so can't get as much queenside counterplay as is normal for the Benko. Hope that helps.
I am playing the Benko Gambit in a game where white just played 4. b3. I am wondering what the best response would be. I played 4... bxc4, intending to place a rook on the b file. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I still think that "Play the Benko Gambit' by Edwards is the best to learn the Benko... it is old but it gives you the Tabiyas as starting points to play agianst your computer or a friend and that has been more helpful to me than just looking at games
