Finally got my ChessnutGo today! Took it to work and played a few games on it when I had some downtime. Looking forward to playing some of the members one day.
Got mine just the other day, ordered same day the pre orders were open. It's pretty neat, I'll probably go play somewhere while eating breakfast on Sunday
I will also add that the board is heavier than you might imagine. It's a bit heavier than my Millennium eOne, even thought the latter is much bigger. A tad more weight to carry, but the result is that it certainly doesn't feel flimsy in the hand.
I'm not a physicist, but my understanding is that the magnetic force will be inversely proportional to somewhere between the square and cube of the distance. So, small differences in distance between the magnet and the iron core can have major effects on the strength of the force of attraction. In my set, most of the pieces will stay attached to the board if I tilt it smoothly, all the way to 90 degrees and further. However, some of the pieces will start to slide, probably at around 60-70 degree
There's probably a bit of variation. The magnet is a flexible polymer magnetic sheet under the top surface. It's being attracted to the iron core in the RFID sensor in the pieces. I imagine that if the sensor is placed slightly more deeply in the piece (as opposed to immediately under the surface of the felt/velvet), then the magnetic force of attraction will be less.
I would agree that the magnets are not strong enought on mine to turn the set vertical, much less say upside down. But, they easily hold with tilting and moderate shaking of the board.
Got mine today. Orange buttons. Works great so far! Have to agree I did think magnets would a be stronger, but overall, I am satisfied for what it is and how I will use it!
Just received my grey button GO! Initial impressions: the pieces feel noticeably smaller compared to the AIR, and the magnets aren't as strong as I expected. Despite this, the included case makes it a nice overall package.
NOT FAIR! I am still waiting for mine to be delivered. Did you get the orange button model? Still waiting for mine, even though I ordered it in the first 6 hours of it being available.
Not sure about the chipset/capabilities question. I do not really use the app for the Pro at all, I use the Chessconnect extension made by chess[]com user joernupbde. Long thread on it in the Chess Books & Equipment sub forum.
I have been using my Pro lately, although I pulled the Evo out yesterday and played two long games with it. The Pro takes up a lot of space and needs the tablet/laptop to use so it is normally used for my long tournament games at the dining room table. It can fit on my desk, but I have no room for much else.
