I'm not logo, but if this was my experiment I would want people to choose 3 or 5 at the start and stick with their chosen control. If he's trying to study the relationship between PR training, PR results, mozart effect, age, etc., switching time controls could muddy the waters. Also if people are consistent it will give us data on whether improvement is faster on 3 min or 5 min PR.
@carlkarl i would say 5 min is more boring and you cant play PB. and i guess if you wanted to get higher scores then you would probably have to be 2500+ and my average 3min is 27.5 and my tactics high is 2550 so i'd say that you stick to 3min
Does playing 3 minute or 5 minute puzzle rush matter? My theory is that for people like me, 2100 chess.com puzzle peak, 5 minute should technically be better since you are exposed to higher rated tactics more often. If you play 3 minute you won't get as high rated tactics and you will only practice the really simple tactics. For example, in 3 minute I can reach 20, but in 5 minutes I can reach 25+´. Which means I am practicing higher rated tactics in 5 minutes which should be more efficient?
I've been doing my puzzle rush in one sitting per day; is this what is desired for a controlled experiment, or should it be spread out over the course of the day?
