I like both your points. Eeyore, VC and one player are totally different games and to use the same method against both May or may not work. Hicetnunc, your guess that a group of players could play up to 400 points higher but not 1000+ is a very reasonable point. Overall, I feel what is being done is good, probably not 100% accurate, but better than nothing.

But 2400 chess.com players - these are not IM strength players - very few groups have regular titled players actively involved in VC

So basically, we're talking about teams with maybe one strong player (2200 FIDE) and ranks of amateurs (1500-2000) playing at over 3000 elo - hard to believe...

The threshold Daws is using is highly conservative - it's like 3200-level play... It's way above Carlsen for example.

A VC team can play much stronger than his stronger player - I agree with that. Maybe much stronger is even like 400 pts. stronger. But we're talking about 1000 pts here... That's just not possible. Because even 10 humans in consultation do tire and make mistakes sometimes, or miss an idea because they explore deeply another...
