I haven't tried the Buffalo Trace yet - That's on my agenda for next month, but I hear it's good. Seriously though, try the Old Forester and let me know what you think.

no, i quit smoking too, Hussain. My body is a temple and I only put big macs in it now lol! yes, chuck that would be interesting...in the remote parts of Scotland, as in your part of the world, they used to illegally distill whisky and they were forever fighting with the customs and exise men. makes interesting historical reading, though.

Ewan, the tax issue has been a hot button topic w/ Whiskey since the beginning - When I get my forum going, I'll discuss this issue. I'm currently reading about the "Whiskey Rebellion" in my country, in which some of your countrymen almost overthrew the U.S. government over Washington's decision to tax whiskey in the 1780's

Huss, you can drink your whiskey anyway you want, but with a good whiskey, it better to drink it neat, w/ just a splash of water, and enjoy it.

ive never tried the blue label. and im on the wagon, so i might not try it till the next life lol! The ridiculousness of the tax on booze over here is second only to the tax imposed on tobacco. The ironic thing is that this micky mouse government insist on placing explicit pictures of cancerous lung biopsys etc. on the packet with one hand and take the £3.50 a packet tax with the other. the tax they charge probably barely pays for the betty-ford clinics which they send half the cabine

Regarding the Blue Label - I've never seen it in a bar, and it's not the kind of whiskey you have a shot of. It is rumored to be everything you say. With regards to the Old Forester, the taste was very good.

After reading some favorable reviews, I bought a bottle of Old Forrester. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. This whiskey tastes like a $30 whiskey, but cost me less than $13 clams. We can only get the 86 proof here in Ohio, but they also sell a 100 proof version which is supposed to be just as good. I would highly recommend trying this, especially if you are on a tight budget. It blows Beam and Daniels out of the water and is as good as Buffalo Trace, Bulleit and Knobb Creek!

With respect to JW Blue label, every review I have seen rates this as one of the top scotchs, alas, I'll never know because it's WAY out of my price range. Also, Bushmill's 21 yo is about the same price, and consistently rate higher.
