The 2013 Arimaa World Championship is just around the corner. Just like last year, we are going to have awesome live audio commentary of the championship games, but at the moment I am recruiting players, not spectators. Last year's "elite" tournament had a $100 entry fee and a large prize fund, but this year we are back to the "everybody plays" entry fee of $10. With 21 players signed up already, we are almost certain to break the record participation of 33 from 2011. See below for a list of the registrants so far. The format is six rounds of Swiss Divider followed by elimination finals until only the champion remains. This means everyone is guaranteed six games against unique opponents, with the games becoming more evenly matched as the rounds progress. The complete rules are here: http://arimaa.com/arimaa/mwiki/index.php/2013_World_Championship_Rules Registration closes midnight UTC January 4, so if you don't already have Arimaa points or money in PayPal you can use, now is the time to figure out how to register. Omar has been lenient about the registration deadline in the past, but I'm scheduling the first round on January 5, so no late registrations will be accepted this year. The official Learn to Play Arimaa video:
Perhaps the first stop for anyone interested in Arimaa is the official Arimaa website. There you can find news, forums, tutorials, videos, game replays, articles by the best Arimaa players in the world, and whole lot more. Perhaps most importantly, there you can play Arimaa against human opponents and a whole series of bots. I think climbing the bot ladder is particularly fun.
