In an effort to ressurect this team, I've stared a couple of Team Matches, and I figure I can post about them here as sort of a log. . Central Florida Chess vs Detroit Rook City The first Match we accepted was a challenge sent to us all the way back in December. With a roughly 300 point advantage on every board, this one is probably going to go to them, but you can't really blame them, cuz they totally forgot the challenge was even out there. Plus it was set to Auto-Start, which is never a good idea if you want to ensure an even match. There's 4 of us in there playing one game at a time (which is always my preference - let me know if you prefer playing both games at once, and I can start a match with that setting). We've already lost our first game. It started out pretty even, but then we made a huge mistake & just resigned immediately afterwards. We've all been there. You realize what you did right after you did it, but it's too late. No point fighting a losing battle after that. Hopefully we'll have better luck in game 2. They're also only playing 2 Matches at the moment. One against us, and the other against Georgia. They've won 39% of their previous matches (we're at a pitful 08%). They've got 117 members, but it looks like only 38 have been online in the last week. (By comparison, we have 88 members, 36 have been online in the last week) . Small Teams Only - No Monster Conglomerates I tried sending out an open challenge to another small team, but Chess School gobbled it up and threatened to annihilate us. So we cancelled that one, and tried again. This time, our challenge was accepted by a little Dutch team about the same size as us. They've got 77 members, and 45 have been online within the last week. They don't have any other matches in progress, and they've won 40% of their previous matches. This should be a good even match, so let's show them what Detroit is capabale of.

Hi I'm rated 1628 USCF but that was years ago. Playing a lot of rated games using rybka and Shredder and using elo calculators I can say confidently I'm rated 1778. I'm offer Lessons for 5 USD a hour and the first lesson is free for my first student! I also analyse games for $3 ($2 if it's under 20 moves and $4 if it's over 40 and this price goes up every .25 for 10 moves with your money back if not satisfied) Well play 2 games (not part of the lesson and free) rapid time controls of 15/15 then ger into the lesson.

It's time to get this group moving again. We don't need to be super active, but we should be active. I've started some matches and I'm looking to do a vote chess game as well. I could really use a couple admins to help recruit, and or run any of the areas to make sure we don't go dormant again. Anybody interested in the job?

The Dark Knight RisesCustom Trophy Tournament SeriesOpening July 20th The epic conclusion to the best Batman trilogy ever deserves the most epic Dark Knight Tournament ever!! In 2008, Batman learned that he does in fact have limitations after all. Likewise, in our first Dark Knight Tournament, we learned many lessons regarding what kind of limitations we have. Our first tournament saw a plethora of Jokers defying the rules and/or timing out without making a single move. So this time around the standard tournament minimums (# of games and timeout percentage) will be in place. Also, 8 of the 9 tournaments will be thematic which means that the game will start with a pre-determined position in which black has already opened with their DARK KNIGHT. This will eliminate all of the forfeits that happened last time when some Joker would open with their black pawn instead of their DARK KNIGHT. Since we learned how incredibly long a tournament can last at 7-days per move, or even 5-days, the new tournaments will all be set for 3-day time controls. It is the third movie after all, so it only seems appropriate. For this same reason, we will have groups of four with one simultaneous game so that everyone will be playing in 3 games at a time. And finally, just so that the big brains in The 2K Club don’t have all the fun, there will be 3 separate rating levels so that everyone has a chance at getting one of those awesome Dark Knight Custom Trophies!!! The one tournament that is not thematic will be by invitation only. If you wish to play in The Dark Knight Rises – Open Tournament, you must send me a message asking for an invitation. In this message, you must acknowledge that you agree to open with your DARK KNIGHT as black regardless of how white opens. With 20 possible first moves for white, and 4 possible first moves for black, this means there is a total of 80 possible variations that these games could take. Anyone who does not open with their DARK KNIGHT agrees to resign that game as forfeit. YOU MUST AGREE TO THIS RULE TO RECEIVE AN INVITATION!!! The other 8 tournaments will start from the 4 most common white openings (1.e4, 1.d4, 1.Nf3, and 1.c4) with the two most common DARK KNIGHT responses (1.Nf6 and 1.Nc6). The 3 rating levels will be: A) 2000 and over, B) 1400-1999, C) 1399 and below. Here are the links to all 27 of The Dark Knight Rises Tournaments: The Dark Knight Rises 1a – Open (Invitation Only) The Dark Knight Rises 2a – Indian (1.d4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 3a – Zukertort (1.Nf3…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 4a – Anglo-Indian (1.c4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 5a – Alekhine (1.e4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 6a – Nimzowitsch (1.e4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 7a – Mikenas (1.d4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 8a – Black Mustang (1.Nf3…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 9a – Anglo-Lithuanian (1.c4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 1b – Open (Invitation Only) The Dark Knight Rises 2b – Indian (1.d4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 3b – Zukertort (1.Nf3…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 4b – Anglo-Indian (1.c4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 5b – Alekhine (1.e4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 6b – Nimzowitsch (1.e4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 7b – Mikenas (1.d4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 8b – Black Mustang (1.Nf3…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 9b – Anglo-Lithuanian (1.c4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 1c – Open (Invitation Only) The Dark Knight Rises 2c – Indian (1.d4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 3c – Zukertort (1.Nf3…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 4c – Anglo-Indian (1.c4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 5c – Alekhine (1.e4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 6c – Nimzowitsch (1.e4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 7c – Mikenas (1.d4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 8c – Black Mustang (1.Nf3…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 9c – Anglo-Lithuanian (1.c4…Nc6) Here’s a link to all the Custom Trophies that are up for grabs!!! Greetings, I've been bitten again and struggling to re-learn what little I knew way back then when I used to play with the Downriver Chess Club. Just a quick note here to say hi and to see if there's anyone here from the DCC. The only names I can recall are Zamback, Mullins, Sist and Oulette. Any info on these (or other DCC members from the early 70s) would be greatly appreciated. Take care and GOOD LUCK! Woody... now living in North Carolina.
Hey everyone, we've been invited to participate in a World City League. Let's show 'em what Detroit is made of!! I'm not sure if it's going to be Team Matches, Vote Chess, or both. Don't know any specifics yet really. Only that it will be city vs city. Here's the link to the World City League: http://www.chess.com/groups/home/world-city-league Also, we could use someone to actively seek out other Detroit area members to join our team. Does anyone have time to do this? I can make you an admin so you can send out the invites.

Have you heard the load about splitting Michigan and Ohio State into different divisions and moving the game to mid-season so that there could be a "re-match" in the "Big Ten Title Game"? What a crock!!! http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=dw-umosu082310
Just Joined the Team Vote Chess game. Let's show Portland that nobody can beat Detroit.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!! HAVE A GREAT 2010!!! Don't forget that there's a BLUE MOON this New Year's Eve!!!

Michigan loses to Ohio State 21-10. Michigan fumbled the ball, threw interceptions, and certainly did not look like the winningest team in NCAA history. In fact this was our second losing season in a row. We had the longest continuous bowl streak, and longest consecutive winning season streak broken last year, and yet Coach Rodriguez has yet to have a winning season as a Wolverine. Ohio State has now beaten us 6 years in a row, and 8 of the last 9 years (since Jim Tressel took over). I'm throwing together a little music video with today's game footage to express my frustration with my favorite team (it's basically just an excuse to play with my new editing software ). I need the perfect song to accompany the visuals. It can't be too harsh, cuz they're still my favorite team, and always will be no matter what. So something like "Loser" by Beck won't work. Breakdown by Tom Petty? I Missed Again by Genesis? What are your ideas? If I pick your song, I'll mention you in the credits.

Welcome to the SCARIEST trilogy of tournaments ever!!! It is October, time to celebrate Halloween and Dia de la Muerta!! So I've designed a trilogy of terrifying tournaments for anyone who is brave enuf to try them. Since October is the 10th month of the year, each tournament will have 10 players. When you've got scary things coming after you, you need to move very fast, so all of these tournaments will be set at only 1-day per turn (you'd better be able to keep up). And just to make things even scarier, BOTH games per opponent will start immediately!! That means you will be playing 18 simultaneous games (and any mathematician can tell you that 18 is what you get when you add 6+6+6 ). These tournaments will be going very fast, so vacation time is NOT allowed. However, just to make sure that no one gets hurt for real (it is all in fun after all) these games will also NOT be rated. Here are the Custom Trophies for the Halloween Gambit Tournament: 1st Place: 2nd Place: 3rd Place: Here are the Custom Trophies for the Dracula vs Frankenstein Tournament: 1st Place: 2nd Place: 3rd Place: And here are the Custom Trophies for the Creepy Crawly Tournament: 1st Place: 2nd Place: 3rd Place: Good Luck to everyone brave enuf to try these horrifying tournaments!! Have Fun!!
