Here is the Official Ladder Tournament part 2 thread for this group: This is the official continuation of the original chess turtle ladder (see other thread). We've cleaned it up for inactive members and brought it up to date. The opening order for this part 2 of the ladder tournament is based on the ORIGINAL chess turtle ladder as it was at post #146 in the ORIGINAL chess turtle ladder thread. I will update the ladder based on games played in the tournament (see rules below) and joining/leaving of members. Whenever we get a new member, I will include them at the bottom of the ladder. Whenever players become inactive, or doesn't respond to challenges, they will be removed from the ladder. They will then have to re-apply. This yields the CURRENT chess turtle ladder. Just to be clear, the order you see below is not the ORIGINAL or opening ladder order, but the CURRENT ladder order. If you feel we removed you without proper justification, please let us know and we will add you to your rightful position based on the ORIGINAL chess ladder. This option will remain active until March 1, 2011. After that I can't readjust, as it would be unfair to the other active players If you wish to join the ladder tournament, pIease let us know by posting in this thread and I will add you to the bottom of the CURRENT ladder. If you wish to opt out of this tournament (i.e. you do not want to be bothered with challenges, or whatever) simply let us know by posting in this thread, and I will remove you from the ladder. The Rules: 1. The goal is to climb the ladder as high as you can. So you may only challenge someone higher on the ladder than yourself, or accept a challenge from someone lower on the ladder than yourself. 2. To be considered part of this tournament, the game must be clearly labeled as a part of this specific ladder. The challenge and the results should also be posted in this thread so that other members know who is available for challenging, and who is not. 3. You may only play in ONE ladder game at a time. Courtesy would dictate that if you just completed a game in which you issued the challenge to someone higher than you, you should give someone lower than you the chance to challenge you before issuing another challenge. If no one challenges you after a couple days, feel free to challenge again. 4. The challenge must be from the original starting position, and have color assigned randomly. All other variables are at the discretion of the two players, but some agreement must be reached. If a player simply refuses to accept a challenge on any terms, they will be removed from the ladder (please let me know if that happens - you may need to send them a message first to get around their settings). The games may be unrated. 5. If the player on the higher rung wins, there is no change to the ladder. 6. If the player on lower rung wins, that player now occupies the rung formerly held by the higher player. The higher player and all players between them slide down one spot as a result. 7. In case of a draw, the player on the higher rung maintains his position, and the lower player moves to the rung just below the higher player. All players between them slide down one spot as a result. 8. You may only challenge someone up to 10% higher on the ladder than yourself. So if we ever get up to 100 active members , then you can challenge someone 10 rungs higher than you. We round up, so at 32, you can challenge someone 4 rungs higher than you, etc. I think that covers everything. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post them here.

Within each group there are those elite few who answer the call when battle lines are drawn. It doesn't matter if you win or lose. It doesn't even matter how you play the game. What matters is that you play the game!! I thought I was the slowest player on Chess.com. I guess I'm not. Here is the thread that started it all: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/i-am-the-slowest-player-on-chesscom
HI everybody, Sorry I'm so busy, and I have so little time to keep this group active. Fortunately, this is the one group that I don't have to feel TOO guilty about moving slowly in, eh? Still, I know this group can be better than it is. So I've promoted 5 new admins whom I know well and trust. Here is your new Admin team: Admin(s): wormrose , Baseballfan , DrPhil, liammor, gramos9956, XavierPadilla, Ian_Sinclair, Kacparov Congratulations to all of you. Do not feel pressured into doing anything with your new found powers, but if you ever feel the need to start up a new Team Match or Vote Game, or invite some new members, etc. Now you have the ability. Just make sure that anything you start is Turtle Friendly (minimum 5-days/turn for Team Matches, minimum 3-days/turn for Vote Chess). Have Fun!!!

The Dark Knight RisesCustom Trophy Tournament SeriesOpening July 20th The epic conclusion to the best Batman trilogy ever deserves the most epic Dark Knight Tournament ever!! In 2008, Batman learned that he does in fact have limitations after all. Likewise, in our first Dark Knight Tournament, we learned many lessons regarding what kind of limitations we have. Our first tournament saw a plethora of Jokers defying the rules and/or timing out without making a single move. So this time around the standard tournament minimums (# of games and timeout percentage) will be in place. Also, 8 of the 9 tournaments will be thematic which means that the game will start with a pre-determined position in which black has already opened with their DARK KNIGHT. This will eliminate all of the forfeits that happened last time when some Joker would open with their black pawn instead of their DARK KNIGHT. Since we learned how incredibly long a tournament can last at 7-days per move, or even 5-days, the new tournaments will all be set for 3-day time controls. It is the third movie after all, so it only seems appropriate. For this same reason, we will have groups of four with one simultaneous game so that everyone will be playing in 3 games at a time. And finally, just so that the big brains in The 2K Club don’t have all the fun, there will be 3 separate rating levels so that everyone has a chance at getting one of those awesome Dark Knight Custom Trophies!!! The one tournament that is not thematic will be by invitation only. If you wish to play in The Dark Knight Rises – Open Tournament, you must send me a message asking for an invitation. In this message, you must acknowledge that you agree to open with your DARK KNIGHT as black regardless of how white opens. With 20 possible first moves for white, and 4 possible first moves for black, this means there is a total of 80 possible variations that these games could take. Anyone who does not open with their DARK KNIGHT agrees to resign that game as forfeit. YOU MUST AGREE TO THIS RULE TO RECEIVE AN INVITATION!!! The other 8 tournaments will start from the 4 most common white openings (1.e4, 1.d4, 1.Nf3, and 1.c4) with the two most common DARK KNIGHT responses (1.Nf6 and 1.Nc6). The 3 rating levels will be: A) 2000 and over, B) 1400-1999, C) 1399 and below. Here are the links to all 27 of The Dark Knight Rises Tournaments: The Dark Knight Rises 1a – Open (Invitation Only) The Dark Knight Rises 2a – Indian (1.d4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 3a – Zukertort (1.Nf3…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 4a – Anglo-Indian (1.c4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 5a – Alekhine (1.e4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 6a – Nimzowitsch (1.e4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 7a – Mikenas (1.d4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 8a – Black Mustang (1.Nf3…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 9a – Anglo-Lithuanian (1.c4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 1b – Open (Invitation Only) The Dark Knight Rises 2b – Indian (1.d4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 3b – Zukertort (1.Nf3…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 4b – Anglo-Indian (1.c4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 5b – Alekhine (1.e4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 6b – Nimzowitsch (1.e4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 7b – Mikenas (1.d4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 8b – Black Mustang (1.Nf3…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 9b – Anglo-Lithuanian (1.c4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 1c – Open (Invitation Only) The Dark Knight Rises 2c – Indian (1.d4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 3c – Zukertort (1.Nf3…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 4c – Anglo-Indian (1.c4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 5c – Alekhine (1.e4…Nf6) The Dark Knight Rises 6c – Nimzowitsch (1.e4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 7c – Mikenas (1.d4…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 8c – Black Mustang (1.Nf3…Nc6) The Dark Knight Rises 9c – Anglo-Lithuanian (1.c4…Nc6) Here’s a link to all the Custom Trophies that are up for grabs!!! i joined this group because sometimes i prefer long games but im not seeing any new open challenges.. does anyone knows why?
Here is the Official Ladder Tournament thread for this group: The ORIGINAL ladder order (no longer posted) is based on seniority in the group (the order you joined). Whenever we get a new member, I will include them at the bottom of the ladder. The CURRENT ladder order (spread out over the next few posts) is based on the results of games played in the tournament. If you wish to opt out of this tournament (i.e. you do not want to be bothered with challenges, or whatever) simply let me know, and I will move your name to the bottom with a note that you are Not Available (n/a). If a player simply refuses to accept a challenge on any terms, they will be placed at the bottom as unavailable (please let me know if that happens - you may need to send them a message first to get around their settings). So if we ever get up to 100 members (including those who have opted out of this ladder tournament), then you can challenge someone 10 rungs higher than you. At 90, you can challenge someone 9 rungs higher than you, etc. I think that covers everything. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post them here.

My fellow turtles, are you interested in a turtle-only tournament? Of course there is the epic original ( http://www.chess.com/tournament/the-turtle-tournament )but that has been going on for over 2 years now, so many of you had no chance to join that or are eliminated. I do propose a slightly different setup though, as the duel structure of the original leads to 5 year tournies - great fun, but you don't want to have 5 of those, especially as a non-premium member with a limit on how many tournaments you can join. Settings would be: pace: 14 days / move (turtles! turtles!)group size: 4max players: 48 (wih priority for members of the group)advance: 1rating: openmove speed: all playersstandard starting position. All games would be rated, tie-breaks would be used, vacation time allowed, min number of games completed: 10; max timeout: 5%. In case of succes we can repeat this every so often. Comments, suggestions welcome!
We had a thread before about the longest game of correspondence chess ever, but what are the results when we only look at chess.com? What's the longest game a turtle has been in? In my case, this game is still ongoing: http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=15360690 has started on february 17th, 2009 and at this rate it might hit the one year mark... (mainly due to my opponent by the way, he should be an honorary turtle as he's even slower than i am, by a considerable margin.). The situation looks drawish to me, so it might be going on even longer...
How would I go about "contributing to my team"? And what group functions do we do, if any?

My dad tried to kill himself yesterday by shooting himself in the chest with a nail gun. One nail went into his lung, and one into his heart (he's already had Open Heart Surgery before, so it wasn't in the best of shape to begin with). They removed both nails and have him heavily sedated and restrained in ICU, but they say he's day to day. If nothing ruptures, he should survive. But if something ruptures, the Dr. says he probably won't be able to get to it fast enuf. Please pray for him!!! As sad as it sounds, a lot of you are some of my closest friends (even if we're not close geographically). Thanks for your support. I'll keep you updated.

http://www.chess.com/livechess/game.html?id=24208932 this was ,my longest and probably and the most boring game ever.
Hello fellow Turtles!!! One of our members has created a 960 Tournament specifically for us Chess Turtles complete with Custom Trophies of Turtles and everything!!! The time controls are at a nice and relaxed 10-day/turn pace. With groups of 5 and 1 simultaneous game, you'll only be playing 4 games at once, so it shouldn't be too big of a strain on anyone's workload. There's only 15 spots, so I'm sure we can find enuf people willing to fill it up. I encourage everyone to support your fellow Chess Turtle by joining this tournament: http://www.chess.com/tournament/iexcltortugas-960 Good Luck Everyone!!! Have Fun and Don't Time Out!!!

My newest short film, The Delivery, has won the "Best Spy Genre" category in the 48-hour film challenge!! The whole film was written, produced, shot, and edited in 48-hours!! Out of 300 films, only 31 received awards. This is my best work on the internet so far. I hope you all enjoy it. See if you can spot the chess set that I slipped in. There's 2 shots where you can see it, but you have to be looking for it. http://www.filmchallenge.org/awards/the-delivery
For those interested in the progress of The Turtle Tournament, here is the link: http://www.chess.com/tournament/the-turtle-tournament We're 40 days into it, and says we're 16% complete. At that rate, it will be done on August 10, 2009 (Loser Day). There's 34 completed games which means the 1st round is 34% complete. At that rate, Round 2 would start on April Fool's Day. 11 players have advanced to Round 2 and earned the "Computer Comfort" trophy: Canigou (group 12) (1 Knockout, 1 Submission) Anton86 (group 18) (Double Submission) Rosebeiaard (group 24) (Double Submission) lperfectionistl (group 26) (Double Submission) boston02 (group 42) (1 Knockout, 1 Submission) The_Shrike (group 43) (Double Knockout) (Chess Turtle) Aldrin (group 44) (Double Knockout) (Chess Turtle) CLMS_Brail (group 45) (Double Knockout) mortenjorgensen (group 46) (1 Knockout, 1 Submission) Vrom (group 47) (1 Knockout, 1 Submission) (Account Closed) papergod (group 50) (1 Knockout, 1 Submission) 11 players have been eliminated and earned the "Heart of a Lion" trophy: nicholas37 (group 12) jmckever (group 18) rchobit (group 24) doctom51 (group 26) dave_c (group 42) miser (group 43) ches1er (group 44) RLacroix (group 45) (Chess Turtle) Hugh_T_Patterson (group 46) Dean1168 (group 47) rprism (group 50) The "Biggest Upset" honor currently belongs to the ONLY underdog to win a game so far: RomanaChisu.
Things have been pretty slow lately, but around here that's not a bad thing. Still I think we're big enuf to venture out into the competitive arenas a little bit. I've sent out an Open Seek for a Vote Game and a Team Match, both with Turtle Time Controls. The Vote Game (Turtle Week) is set for the maximum 7 days per turn. This is the exact speed that the entire game will take (2 weeks total per move), which means that the game could last 8 months to 2 years!! The Team Match (Turtle Ten) is set for 10 players, 10 days per turn, and only one concurrent game. So it could take a little while too. I've also picked a few friends to be my Co-Administrators: wormrose, (Admin) weir96, (Admin) Baseballfan, (Admin) OSUBUCKEYE (Admin) Melanerz (Admin) shane97 (Admin) Feel free to invite new members, and issue or accept Team Matches and Vote Games (but let's keep all the time controls to a minimum of 5-days, preferably 7-days). We are a cozy little group, and I like that, so let's not go overboard or anything, but you all have the power now if you want to use it (or not - it's up to you). Thank You!! Good Luck!! Have Fun!!
