I was thinking... Now that I've been on the site I think I could start a real tournament.. How about some time in May? Who would be interested?

Hello all, You may have noticed that Valeri Lilov, who is currently a FM rated player has joined our group. He is also a chess coach and I have taken some lessons from him. He is good and loves to help us lower rated players. In any case, in talking with him, he has graciously agreed to provide something for this group. It will work this way. If we want to have a game annotated by him (ideally one from our team matches) then he has requested that we send it to the following e-mail address: tigerlilov@tigerlilov.com He will periodically, pick some but not all of the interesting games submitted, review them, annotate them and provide links. Ideally, they would be part of this forum. Any annotations are on his schedule as this is voluntary so it could end at any point. In any case, if your nervous about submitting any let me know and I will submit all mine and we can just sit and make fun of my blunders. If you don't like this idea, please feel free to express your dislike. If you do like it then, please let me know.

Hi to you all, my name....nickname is curse or doom...which ever you prefer. I am from Scotland. I was asked by one of your members to join your clan. I can't really remember whom it was that asked me but thank you for the invite. It was New Year Eve after all and I was taking part in some celebrations. I look forward to being a team player and a Chess GM by the time I reach the age of 21. I'm 40 now....lol. I hope you will all accept me as a member and take me under your wing. My Chess playing abilities are rusty as all hell. I was a school champion but that does go back a few years. Thanks.... Hi All, Ok, here it is the long over due Tournament... The groud-rules are as follows: (at least unless someone offers something better :-) ) Each game is a 3day per move game. Each game is unrated. Its a double elimination meaning you lose twice and you are eliminated. (yes I'm just making this stuff up as I go.) The higher rated player will challenge the lower rated player. If in the event there aren't an even number of players the lowest rated player gets the pass to the next round (thereby ensuring our dedication to lower rated players). We will just play a single game per player.. (I know this means you may not get to play both white and black - but it is unrated :-) ) After the first game is played by all pairs, I will repeat the matchings based on the winners/losers etc. When in doubt, I will flip a coin. Plesae send me a message when the game concludes so I can keep track and update the forum. Assuming everyone is ok with this then I have the following based on responses... Just an idea I had for a group activity. A group tournament with such a small sized group could easily be organized through the forums here. Just rank the players in order of rating, and pair each as in a normal tournament. In case of an odd number, the highest ranked player could have a one round bye. To play, all the members would anyone would have to do would be to challenge their assigned partner. Sound fun?

To all of you: Please, we cannot function in team matches unless you all do your own part and join. At the moment the number of people registered is only about half our team size! Come on guys, it's not that hard...
