I believe in this club, but I wish the owner were more active. @AgentRikLikesTacos may have made a terrible mistake in transferring the ownership of this fantastic club to @WaffiBoy, who hasn’t had a single entry in the audit log since September 23rd, 2024.

Chess Pie: A Sweet Slice of HistoryChess Pie is a classic Southern dessert that’s as rich in history as it is in flavor. This simple yet delicious pie is known for its sweet, custardy filling and a hint of tanginess from a secret ingredient: vinegar. Let’s dive into a chess-themed recipe for this delightful pie and explore the origins of its intriguing name. Ingredients:1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade if you prefer)2 cups granulated sugar2 tablespoons cornmeal1 tablespoon all-purpose flour¼ teaspoon salt½ cup unsalted butter, melted¼ cup whole milk1 tablespoon white vinegar½ teaspoon vanilla extract4 large eggs, lightly beatenPowdered sugar for garnish (optional)Instructions:Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).Prepare the Crust: Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim and crimp the edges as desired.Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the sugar, cornmeal, flour, and salt.Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the melted butter, milk, vinegar, and vanilla extract until well combined. Then, add the beaten eggs and mix until smooth.Fill the Crust: Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-55 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. The Origin of Chess Pie’s Name:The name “Chess Pie” has several theories behind it, each adding a layer of charm to this beloved dessert: “It’s Just Pie”: One popular story suggests that the name came from a Southern drawl. When asked what kind of pie it was, a cook might have replied, “It’s jes’ pie,” which sounded like "chess pie".Pie Chest: Another theory is that the pie was stored in a pie chest, a piece of furniture used to keep pies fresh before refrigeration. Over time, “chest pie” may have evolved into "chess pie".Cheese Pie: Some believe the name is a corruption of “cheese pie,” as early English recipes for similar custard-like desserts used curd or cheese. The rich texture of chess pie is somewhat reminiscent of these early cheese pies.No matter which story you prefer, there’s no denying that chess pie is a delightful treat that’s sure to please any crowd. Enjoy baking and savoring this sweet slice of history! Feel free to add your own twist to this recipe or share your favorite chess pie memories in the comments below. Happy baking! 🥧
