chesscoachdiego 1 day ago Hi Jim chesscoachdiego 1 day ago long time no speak chesscoachdiego 1 day ago are you still the admin of team USA southeast? surfsnook 1 day ago Yes i am. I use that expression too…”long time no speak.” chesscoachdiego Cool. I see that your team plays daily chess tournaments. I've got an idea that can benefit your team and improve their results. Are you open to some ideas? surfsnook 1 day ago Ok. chesscoachdiego 1 day ago I have in mind a thing that can help your club's member be more engaged and improve their chess. I've noticed that your club members participate in tournaments. In my experience as a chess coach, most chess players don't know how to play proper daily chess and use its tools to their fullest. So, I'd like to organize a free online workshop for your club on how to improve their daily chess performance and how to use it for training and improving chess. ´ By improving their performance, they'll be able to win more games for your club. I'd like to orient the training for every player who is between 800 -1900 rating. It's 100% free. However, I specialize in helping adult improvers, so the only requirement to join the workshop is to be an adult. If you like the idea, I can prepare the registration form for the workshop for 20 members or more, depending on how many are interested. Of course, as the admin of the group, you are welcome to join the session, too. If you want to know more about my credentials, you can check the post chess.com made about when they picked me as chess coach of the month here: https://www.chess.com/article/view/coach-of-the-month-diego-villanueva What do you think? surfsnook 1 day ago Sounds good. How would we announce it to the team? Let me know and I’ll run it by our admins and get their approval. Thank you for thinking of us. Jim chesscoachdiego 17 hours ago cool so chesscoachdiego 17 hours ago So, what I have in mind is to schedule a day for the call. It can be next week: Probably Monday at 7 pm CT time Once we fix the date, I can send you an invitation text that includes the workshop information about the topics and then send you a registration page. If you can help by making an announcement in the group and sending a message to all the members to promote the event, that would be helpful. Also, I'd appreciate it if I could promote the event in the group. Do you think next Monday at 7 pm is a good day? (Those who register to the event but cannot make it, will receive a free copy of the workshop recording) surfsnook 6 hours ago Some problems. Before I run it by our admin group, I am already thinking we will not be able to do this. I have very weak computer skills. What is the call Monday at 7:00? What is the registration page? We have quite a few teammates who do chess coaching. They have done very little promoting of their programs on our team site. I think we have had only one coach who we let promote his program in a forum post. I am very cautious and careful about making team-wide announcements and what I get the team involved with on here. We have 3300 members that I try not to bother except for important team matches. We do not play internal tournaments, or time based matches, or anything but daily team matches. We put so much time and energy into those, and ask so much of our players regarding those matches, that I am very hesitant to get us involved in anything else. surfsnook 6 hours ago Can we do this through a forum post? And maybe a few messages on the team page? chesscoachdiego 3 hours ago surfsnook wrote: Some problems. Before I run it by our admin group, I am already thinking we will not be able to do this. Hi Jim, thank you for letting me know your concerns. I mean, I am not promoting a paid event, it's free for anyone who is an adult player. Also, I promise that I won't pitch any type of paid coaching in during the workshop. I don't want to annoy the other admins, coaches and I totally respect the other members of the group. chesscoachdiego 3 hours ago Hi Jim, thank you for letting me know your concerns. Thank you.

We typically only send out match invites to our players when we are trailing in player numbers or in the ratings. Most matches we do not send out invite messages. When we do send them, we usually only target a specific rating group like the 1200s. We do not send them to the whole team. If we do need to reach out to the whole team, maybe once or twice a month, I use the "announcement" mechanism. I do not like sending match invites for 2 reasons: #1. I don't like to bother our teammates, and they don't like to be bothered (Although they are always very nice about it. I will get hundreds of responses saying "Thank you for reminding me", "I'm in", "Aye, Aye, Captain", etc. before I get a single negative comment. In the last 6 months I have had one person ask me not to message them about a match. They did so in a polite, friendly manner, and I responded back "OK" in a nice friendly manner...and we are still friends! ). #2. It takes some time and work on the part of the sender. The match invites work. They are very successful. They are a a wonderful way to get more players out for a match! 1. click on members 2. click on daily rating. scroll/click down to 1299 for the 1200s, for example. 3. Only send message to those who have been on line in last 24 hours (they tend to be the more active ones and more apt to join the match). Saves you a lot of work by not having to message those who probably will not see your message in time to join the match. 4. Say that we need them to join the match with whatever words you want. You can do no wrong. We are just trying to have fun here and make friends and build a community of good people and bring some happiness to people's lives, and we are volunteers. Whatever you do on this team as an admin or player is awesomely awesome. 5. Give the match link. Only tricky part. Make sure you get the link from our page and not our opponent's, or our player will not be accepted when he clicks "join". 6. Also, if the match has more than 10 players already signed up, I think you have to click on "more players" right after player #10 on the roster, and get the full list of players who have joined the match on your screen. Then copy and paste the link into your invite message. I think it does make a difference if we send a link with the list of only the first ten players on the roster, vs. a link list with all players on the roster, when it comes to a new player clicking "join". (Kind of a confusing little side issue. Please don't let it be a worry.)
