That is totally cool! Do you have access to 3D graphical versions of other chess pieces? It would be cool to see them all together.happy.png

I just started making a physical chess piece for the witch. (I'm not good with CAD software). This was made with cut-up pieces from other chess pieces.

It's gonna be a lot hard to make a guard out of wood.sad.png

toothpicks for the spikes

Avatar of vickalan

The spikes will be more hefty than toothpicks - I'm carving them from a 1/4" dowel. I drilled holes in the top of a rook to attach the spikes. The first rook got obliterated when drilling it. Next one cracked, but I glued it back together. More problems than I anticipated, so please wait 2-3 more days.happy.png

It should be a pawn with toothpick spikes, no drilling needed.

Avatar of vickalan

That would look good. I just think a guard should be a little heftier than a pawn.

Also, you're right. Drilling is a bad way to attach the spikes. I ruined two rooks trying to drill holes in them. Cracked and broke apart.

So I rounded the top of a rook, and sanded some flat spots on it. I glued the spikes on. Now I just have to give him a body.

Also, I made the witch a little taller by increasing the height of its pedestal:
