Admins should always be able to message group members

Even if members have messaging switched off, Admins of groups they are in should still have the option to message a group member.

Rationale.

If you join a group you must be interested in it's theme and activity.

There are times when Admins may need to contact members to inform them of upcoming events or possibly to warn them about inappropriate behaviour.

This functionality already exists within site code (friends messaging) so should not be a big implementation issue.

I have put this request in through Support at least 4 times and had no acknowledgement or response. Yes I know you get a lot.

It seems that a forum here gets more attention than other options.

Thank you in advance.

I agree with this concept and I have seen that it has been mentioned before. We shouldn't have to put into our welcome letter that if they block invites then please friend so and so so that we can contact them when need be. That seems to be a lot of trouble, especially when it's a large Club, and you need to manage it.

There is. It's call News.

Exactly. What the problem with the news?

I'll remain silent on this case. There seems to be pros and cons.

If a member doesn't want messages (even from an admin) we are going to respect that and not allow messages. However, if you don't want people in your club who don't let you message them you are 100% within your rights to kick them out of your club.

That's fair, John so how about an option for the member to allow messages from Admins as well as friends. They are then free to chose either or both.

They could add the admin as a friend? That seems like an easy solution there.

OK I can understand that. My logical thought is slightly different. If you want to join a group you should be prepared to accept the group information by default, but I understand where you are coming from.

I don't think it should be a requirement for all groups, but in my groups, I require that new members must have homepage notes enabled as a condition of membership. If, for some reason, I try to contact a member in the future and I cannot contact them, then I will remove them from the club.

The reason is that my clubs are learning and vote chess clubs and the most important thing a member can do is participate in the vote chess games. If a person is so private that they can't be reached then they are most likely not the kind of member I am trying to attract.

I should add that I do not invite people to join. Those who join do so because they want to.

That is totally fair and reasonable.

I deeply support this idea.

There should be an option for admins to send multi-recipient messages, not only the news

It is an, "Easy", solution and what we currently do. Because it's, "Easy"? No. Because it's the only resource that we have. It means that I should have 600 friends and is that really the purpose of a, "Friend", list?

So, yes, it's, "Easy", but only for Chess.Com.

It is but not really accurate. Many join simply because they're asked and others just like to collect friends and clubs.

It should be a simple tweak for Chess.Com to add an option to settings to,  Allow messages from admins", as an addition to, "Allow messages from friends",

Totally agree. There are thousands of groups at chess.com. If a person doesn't like the way I do things they can and should find a group they like. Or the ultimate revenge is they can start their own group and do things exactly the way they want.

grin.png grin.png grin.png . I didn't see t as revenge but a way of doing things better - to give members a club that they would embrace.
