All of jermey silmans books. Like Complete endgame course. And the resesses your chess one. ( I think thats how you spell it.

Also, do the review on all of your games and when you see a mistake or inaccuracy - look at it from the principle you find in books (especially the Silman books like Reassess Your Chess). You will quickly see improvement

I am really enjoying "Chess Tactics" by Yuri Averbakh.

Any particular phase of the game, or just overall?

For the endgame, I quite liked "Silman's Endgame course."

For the middlegame, I found Michael Stean's "Simple Chess" very helpful.

Openings tend to be specific, but I enjoyed Helsten's "Mastering Opening Strategy."

These ten were among those that helped the most during a nearly 600 point rating rise (OTB).

That’s better than setting them under your pillow while you sleep.

Judit Polgar's Tactics Training is good for helping you recognize relationships and patterns in positions that you need to make decisions.

Bobby Fisher teaches chess. I went from 700 to a 1000 in us chess from 1 tournament because of a quarter of the book.
