Will the move filter allow things like <X and >X?
Archive Redesign, what do you think?
Examples that should be supported:
1. All Rapid games playing white losing with the Ruy Lopez.
This should return all games satisfying the query.
2. Games lost by timeout
3. Game won via checkmate in under 30 moves
Questions:
1. Will the Select all box work for the entire list not just the current page?
2. If Yes, will clicking the Library Icon,
, permit adding these games to the Library with a single Add to library action?
Please consider these suggestions and avoid these bugs:
UI Suggestion: Add game Details and pgn field for synopsis/description display on Archive hover
Suggestion [ ]: Add fen qualifier to archive query options
UI Suggestion [ ]: In Archive listing augment Archive game result icon to indicate Result type
Bug [ ]: Archive query does not consider all games - revisited in the advent of Library Collections
Bug [ ]: Archive query does not consider all games
Bugs [ ]: Archive Date Qualified Query Issues
Will the move filter allow things like <X and >X?
Yes! It is a good point that the GIF only shows one filter at a time, however the plan is a UX which supports several filter criteria.
@jas0501
Examples 1, 2, and 3 we do plan to support.
Question 1: When bulk actioning games it can be difficult to remember which games you've selected from page 1 when you're viewing page 10, so the plan is same page only. *This also helps prevent potential frustration if you try to open or add games with library, classroom, or analysis beyond their supported limits.
Question 2: Within the single page, yes! You should definitely be able to 1) check all then 2) add to a library collection. As shown in the bottom left pagination component in the GIF, you'll be able to show additional games per page if the default is not enough.
UI Suggestion 1: Adding a custom details field to the PGN isn't planned, but we do plan to add custom game titles. I'd imagine titles could be used in a similar way.
UI Suggestion 2: We actually kind of do this if you visit /explorer, enter a few moves, then select "View all games from current position". Another method is the load from explorer option in Classroom. It is a good point that we might make this feature explicit in the Archive UI. here is an example URL from /explorer: https://www.chess.com/games/archive/amaleki?fen=rnbqkbnr/ppp1pppp/8/3p4/3P4/2N5/PPP1PPPP/R1BQKBNR%20b%20KQkq
UI Suggestion 3: Icons for detailed game results, I think this is really fun, but not in the plans yet. We do plan to display the detailed game result in a tooltip when hovering over the result icon and text in the GIF above.
Bugs: Most of the bugs you mentioned relate to how challenging it is to store, clean, and query billions (I'm speculating) of games which we are always actively working on. I think you'll see some improvements here over the next year, no spoilers.
Just a small suggestion. I was trying to find a game and remembered a bit of my opponent's name, but not the exact username. Could there be search suggestions in the username entry field, so you do not have to remember the person's exact name?

FEN queries from the archive would be great. Also using your above link having the result display the FEN board position and the Win, Draw, Loss counts would be really great.

If the title is displayed on hover great! And it's not fixed length, or at least more than 100 characters, to permit good descriptions.
Side note: The way titles are handled in Library is limited to 100 characters and it overloads the players column, hiding the players, which is not optimal.

This is a *huge* improvement to the archive capabilities -- thanks!
Is there any way (or can there be any way) to search across one's libraries the same (or similar) way?

Not across. Some features there already within a Library. One can column sort and search a Library:
Another suggestion: what about the ability to upload PGNs from otb games to the archive? (this may be a stupid idea, idk)
It would be nice to see the archive linked with some of the data in insights. Could I, for instance, select only games where I missed a mate in two? Maybe I could find all games where analysis credited me with a brilliant move.
That may be reflected in the image, which I cannot readily view on my phone.
It would be cool to be able to filter games by the amount of a specific move type(Great, Inacuracy, etc).

That's one use case of the Library feature.

It probably depends on if the brilliant search is only being done on games you have manually ran Game Review on or if it is being also linked to those found in Insights (which can actually be different due to depths I believe).
If the brilliant feature is tied to Insights for those that have them (or some mix of manual review and insights), a missed mates one would be pretty interesting. Though, I think since Insights is only available to Diamond members, adding a filter like that would be a bit more complex, since it wouldn't be an available option for anyone else. Though maybe and upgrade to unlock filter option might be there?
You want to find that game in record time, we hear you!
We know how important it can be to quickly find the game you’re looking for, whether you are studying critical positions or just reminiscing your brilliant moves. So, we are exploring a redesign of the Games Archive.
In the GIF below you’ll see the changes we are thinking about. We are thinking through which filters are important, how easy those filters are to find, which details are important about each game, and we are adding a preview of each final position to make finding the right game more visual and faster.
We want to know what you think. This redesign should be additive, meaning we are not removing any features, only adding to the games archive that you know and love. Does it look like we are missing anything that is important to you? Are you excited for the new look and feel? Please share any of your feedback here.
Thanks!
