As close to real chess as possible

Hi guys,

the tournament is well under way now with results coming in thick and fast.  I have to accept that there were some teething problems. I mistakenly left an old fixture list and the bottom of the active one which confused people. I also had some technical issues with googledrive which thankfully are now sorted. I would appreciate some feedback on the event. For example

Have you enjoyed it and would you take part again?

Do you have any suggestions as to how it might be improved?

How often would you like a tournament like this?

Any other comments you feel are relevant

Many thanks

SB

It has worked fine generally. There has been some variation in the length of games. Blue

In my view it would be a lot easier to have some sort of league format using the chess.com set up, at say a day or two per move. I have played in one that was a knock out in league format, say 4 or 5 in a group and 1 or 2 going through. Or split the group into 2 or 3 divisions. Something simple, easy to follow and use is what is needed.  I propose we trial one in the future, happy to look into setting one up. Playing at set days and times is only good for a few, and certainly not for me. Nick

Thanks for the comments chaps. We have an annual competition of the one Nick suggests which starts in January as a club competition. Believe it or not the last one is still going with one game still to play.  The purpose of this tournament was different.  Because of Covid over the board chess has not been possible in Jersey, so this is as close as we can to a face to face encounter.  I wanted t give players guidance, but also the flexibility to play various agreed length of game and choice of date.  This was not possible with the chess.com organiser.  One similar to Nicks suggested tournament is in the offing. Any other comments still welcomed
