Hi guys, Although I have been running the club for several years now, the club was orgionally created by Steve Ruff. He is the club owner., but has not been online since January 2023.  I am trying to get chess.com to transfer ownership to me, but I cannot do it until I have conducted a survey of members. If you are happy for me to take ownership of the club please just put the word "yes" into this topic. If not please put "No" followed by a sentence explaining how you would like us to proceed. take care John

Hi all, I am new to the island of Jersey and would love the idea of playing chess over the board. Is there a chess club that meets regularly? I am based in St Helier thanks

In Vote chess, it can sometimes become very wordy to explain how you visualise the way forward with lengthy prose and a sequence of notations - very hard for other team members to follow - so much so that your reader will give up following your drift. Hence, inserting a diagram is a fantastic (and surprisingly easy) way of doing this. Give it a try! ⦁Step 1. Just above the text box, you will see a chessboard icon, the first icon on the message toolbar. Click it! ⦁Step 2. Select "Games or sequence of moves" (it's the second radio button), click "Continue" ⦁Step 3. Insert the game position you want to display by pasting the FEN. You get this by clicking the 'download' icon at the bottom of the white information panel. If you want to use a FEN you have to click the FEN window and copy the FEN text of the game notation; that's what you want to paste. Then click "Continue." Step 3 & 1/2 - You reach the Game Editor window. if you are playing black, you need to firstly 'swap ends' with the 'setup position' tab, and pressing the 'about face' icon. Then select the 'moves' tab. ⦁Step 4. You simply drag the pieces around to enter the moves you want to display. You can also add comments on any move in the text boxes provided. (After inserting a comment, be sure to make at least one additional move or the comment will not be saved.) ⦁Step 5. Check in the "Preview" tab how your comments look, then continue adding comments in "Game Editor". ⦁Step 7. When you finish commenting, click "Insert", now your game is in your post. DO NOT close the page from which you started to add analysis. Your game will not get inserted anywhere, and there will be no warning, you'll just lose what you worked on!

Guidelines for Vote Chess ⦁Together we can play smarter and stronger than individually. ⦁To win in vote chess we have to find the best move, not the most popular move at first glance. ⦁Therefore we need to coordinate our thinking by sharing thoughts respectfully before voting. ⦁Our goal should be to achieve consensus. Voting is a formality, after consensus is reached. RULE 1. Don't vote early! Only in the last 10 hours of our turn, even if the move seems obvious. Sometimes the best moves are not obvious. Once you cast a vote, you may be committing the team to a plan that may turn out to be flawed. Really, what's the point of vote chess if you're going to just vote before there has been discussion?! You may as well play by yourself. Exceptions: It is acceptable for one player to make a single "safety vote," just to make sure we don't fail to make a move within the time allowed. Also, if you know that you will be unable to move in the last 10 hours (you won't be online), you can make your move early, but always make a comment to inform the team that you are doing so and why. (This is really only necessary if a safety vote has already been made and it is one that you feel is flawed.) If you are not sure how to move, wait longer. We have a great team; surely the best move will emerge from the collective wisdom. In theory we would only need is single vote from one person if he has waited long enough to gather the best input from all participants. RULE 2. Do share your observations! Your observations and suggestions are probably even more valuable than your actual vote. Analyze each position as if it were its own chess puzzle. Look for the move that is technically superior, not one that just has a good chance of winning against flawed play. (Our opponents are thinking collectively too). If you have a move to suggest, post it and explain its benefits. Sometimes all that is needed is a simple statement like "g6 allows for developing the bishop." RULE 3. Show respect and appreciation! Yes, be polite. But even more importantly, show your teammates that you appreciate their thoughtful suggestions by commenting on them. It doesn't feel good to lay out a detailed plan and then get no response.

Firstly - you need to be able to manipulate the URL, so you probably need a PC to do this. On the vote chess page, select the 'Archive' tab, you get a list of moves - like this one: 1. Nf3 g6 2. d4 d5 3. c4 c6 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. cxd5 cxd5 6. Bf4 Nc6 7. e3 Bg7 8. h3 O-O 9. Bd3 Nb4 10. Bb1 Ne4 11. Nxe4 dxe4 12. Bxe4 f5 13. Qb3 Rf7 Current Move Secondly, you need to look at the details of our last move - in the above case, this would be move 13, Qb3. Click on Qb3. Thirdly, examine the URL in the address bar - in the case of Qb3, this looks like this: https://www.chess.com/votechess/game/140458?mv=24&san=Qb3&activePagination=archive This is a programming instruction to your computer to open the webpage of the votechess game number 140458 at move number 24 (this is the TOTAL number of moves from the beginning of the game) What you have to do now is fiddly. Highlight it all, then click on the gap to the right of the last letter of archive, then delete all the way back to the move number, like this.... https://www.chess.com/votechess/game/140458?mv=24 then you delete the 4 and put a 6, like this.... https://www.chess.com/votechess/game/140458?mv=26 click enter, and it will display the current move, together with the number of votes (if any)!

Hi guys, the tournament is well under way now with results coming in thick and fast. I have to accept that there were some teething problems. I mistakenly left an old fixture list and the bottom of the active one which confused people. I also had some technical issues with googledrive which thankfully are now sorted. I would appreciate some feedback on the event. For example Have you enjoyed it and would you take part again? Do you have any suggestions as to how it might be improved? How often would you like a tournament like this? Any other comments you feel are relevant Many thanks SB

The link for the 2020 Tournament can be found below. It would be good to see as many channel Islanders as possible taking part https://www.chess.com/tournament/channel-island-championship-2020

Hi guys, As I am trying to get us established again I have just issued challenges to Mumbai chess club Team Morocco Monaco London Sevastopol Armenia Michigan None of them are very big clubs and all have less than 200 players. They may all be too strong for us, but i have kept the ratings down to under 2000 to give us some chance. Hopefully if all goes well over the next few weeks I will get us into one of the leagues. all the best SB

Guys, Steve Ruff seems to have disappeared into the Ether. In an attempt to resurrect the channel Islands team I have just challenged Gibraltar to a match. If there is enough interest and we get enough players I will look into joining a league. Lets see how we get on against Gibraltar first and how much interest we have. If you are able please take part in this game so I can gauge what the interest is, assuming of course they accept the challenge take care
