Bots considerations

First of all, i think it was a great idea creating this specific ai "personalities", as add flavour to the game against computer and let us train specific play types. So far:

Pros:
Number of bots
They really are different from komodo and between each other
Organizing bots and komodo by rating! (two thumbs up!)
Love the pics, and the small talk touch
Blunders seems more "real", not the artificial blunders after great moves
Most play different moves depending of their style (for example, play an slava or QGR ortodox from one game to next)

Cons:
Please make a quick popup in the bot selection (live section) in order for us to better choose what bot we want; that popup should contain base strategy (defensive, tricky, always f4,...) or the description on members page.
Not all bots are ok (i only played <1400 so far and not all of them). Some are great but one or another don't seem so natural playing. I'm testing more before naming them.

Please, all comments from other members will be welcome!

I like to play blitz with the bots in my phone while waiting for something, i know my game is full of blunders wink.png, but it is a good way to test the bots against weaker players (like to think that way...)!

Saying this, it is supposed Mateo-Bot don't know how to get the mate king vs king and tower? he has 1300 rating, seems odd.

Wendy-Bot - well round solid player, rating seems fair, no weakness no strenghts, fun to play with

Maria-Bot - weak, with some tricks for the unfocused player, fun to play with

Pierre-Bot - annoying, playing the f4 makes us want to punish him, but sometimes backfires; fun and tricky bot the f4 is a nice touch

Jade-Bot - don't like jade, don't feel the description matches with games, similar with komodo 7,8 perhaps

Elena-Bot - easy, well behind my strengh, but catch me in one or two games while massively distracted; don't feel fun, but it may be due to feel the bot so weak for me

Yes, I do like that they play other openings besides "best" openings like the other engines do, and they play them well.

I have now gathered info on all new computer bots and Komodo levels with ratings < 1000. A blog post is at: Man vs Machine, Initial Days of Computer Bots

I have now played many of the Komodo levels and bots in the mid-ranges of 1000 to 1700, and this has produced a great amount of information on the computer programs.  Data from those games is available at: Man vs Machine, Part II – the Mid-Level Bots.

I have now put together info on the better bots and computer programs above 1700 rating. This includes game info on Stockfish and Lc0, as well as data and statistics on K 17-24 levels, K Boss, 20 + bots, and the latest of the bot line-up based on real people, Hikaru and Danny Rensch.

It is at: Man vs Machine, Part III – the Better Bots.

The last part of the blog series will be on the pros and cons of computer play. Please give me what you like and dislike about the computer chess programs, and I will incorporate your thoughts in Part IV of the series.
