mighty oak:  I'm going to drop some acorns.

DM: (rolls d100) ok, you successfully drop 61 acorns.  In the spring, we'll check to see how many are left.

mighty oak: can I make a saving throw against chipmunks?

DM: yeah, of course......in a few months.

Actually, I have the 5e Player's Handbook here somewhere, so I think I'd prefer to build my own character - happy to play anything, so if others want to choose something, I'll figure out something that goes with the group.

Are we going to use point buy or some other system?

regi-mental

ok Caedrel, you're an experienced player.  I gave every character 16 14 13 12 10 8 to work with.

the cleric is expecially for zerk.  He's never played before so I'll be helping him flesh out the character.  The only thing he told me was not human, with crazy hair.

So, since gnomes have crazy hair anyway, that was easy.

"Zerkonia" the gnomish cleric, was  a miracle baby, with crystals growing out of his head instead of hair.  Hard as rock, he gains the AC benefit of a heavy helm, without the weight penalty.  Several times in his childhood, someone tried to steal the crystals, by stealing his head!  The crystals actually have no value, but to the untrained eye, they appear to be diamonds.

Frightened for his safety, his parents sent him off to a cloistered religious school to become a priest of the light domain.  But Zerkonia wasn't happy, and spent his time studying the arts of a trickster, until finally, at 17, he ran away........

and sorry for the crappy visual quality, I'm at work right now, and the computer is kind of OLD.

These characters need "fleshing out" you can claim one, make your own, fill in the backstory and details, or ask for help.  I will be here every day, and I would like our "ready to begin" characters to meet in the tavern next saturday (24-SEP).

We will begin every scenerio on a saturday, then have  the whole week to work it out (vote chess style) I will be here every day.  We can work out details, ask questions, and I will send out PM's to characters that have special skills or information.  So be sure to check in and share.

Bonus XP for good roleplaying.

as a DM, I'm more interested in storytelling, and rolplaying, than hairsplitting over a stat.  So I'm likely to allow things that move the story forward, or in interesting directions.  I will NOT allow the party to split up.  Try it and you will learn about karma.

If everyone is contributing, the story can move forward more quickly, but the party will not wait beyond saturday to move.  If you have not contributed, the DM or another player will assume control of your character.  If you don't contribute regularly, you will learn about smite.

We will be using the new 5e rules and monster manual.  I have the players handbook, DM's guide, and MM right here on my desk, but most of the info is on-line.

I'm not telling anyone who to be, but.....

I really like the idea of a fat fingered, clumbsy dwarf who always gets caught in the act, and has to brawl his way out.

A "disciple of light" cleric, who's a total fraud, and spent his whole life studying to be a trickster.

a half-orc killing machine, who was cast out of his village because he was always keeping small furry pets.  And longs to be a ranger.

A sorcerer that passionatley wants to make the world a better place, but is under the assumption that that means KILL ALL HUMANS.

8vD sweet!

Skimming the 5e PHB, it's very much like 3e - I'll have to figure out where the differences are, but it's very different from 4e, which I've been running for a while now - just those hit point totals alone are a stark reminder!

I've had a D&D subscription for ages (my group is still using the 4e character builder), but they don't seem to have the same for 5e? They do have a "virtual table" product, and I'm happy to lend my account to regi if he wants to check it out.

www.orcpub.com seems to have a 5e character builder, which I'm trying out for mine...

Born into an unusual but loving family between a simple woodsman and a wood elf maiden, Talezassian's family suffered the fate of nearly all such as his father grew older even as his mother remained as young and beautiful as ever, even as Talezassian approached adulthood and his restlessness with their simple way of life grew. His mother taught him some simple meditations she had learned in turn, many years ago in a place far removed from their forest paths. Talezassian eventually made his way there too, by many strange roads, to the great citadel of Zerth'Ad'lun, and studied their ways for a time. But looking within and seeking inner guidance, he is becoming aware of a growing power within.

I anticipate that next level will be a level of sorceror and then probably continuing along that path, although there are some other levels of monk that I think are really nice. Problem is always that multi-class characters are slower to get the really cool powers that single class characters get to pretty quickly. There was some very nice syngergy between some low level sorceror spells and monks, though - some of that seems to have been nerfed a bit, though (e.g. shield only lasts to the end of one's next turn, and not to the end of the encounter...) - will have to reflect a bit more on those... Unfortunately, it's not exactly an archetype that fits in nicely with a four person party, so I hope that's okay Tongue Out

Something is wrong.

Something is definitely wrong.

It's market day.  The harvest is finished, and bountiful.  The sun is shining.  But the tavern at the town center is deserted.  Only a young cleric, probably not even old enough for ale, sits alone at a long oak table, a rough felt hood covering his head.

If anyone else were here, someone might notice an odd, half-elf, sitting cross legged on a ceiling beam, high above the floor.

The scene is so desolate.....so quiet......even the barmaid has retired to take a nap.  The bell over the door will rouse her, if anyone decides to wander in......

The young cleric peers out a window, as if expecting someone.  But the streets are as empty as the Tavern.

Sorry for the delay but I'll play the half orc fighter if no one else wants to?
