Silence is my soundtrack.
I love music deeply, but when I play chess, even a single note can pull me away.
In the quiet, I can hear the game breathe — and that’s music enough.

how is it possible to hear a board game breath?

its not a literal thing although you can hear the pieces and the clacks, they are probably saying they like to have it so quiet that if the chessboard did breath he could hear it, which shows a great focus in the game

I like Pop music, mostly the modern ones. But many times I can’t focus on the chess properly because I like music to be on a somewhat loud volume and it distracts me sometimes lol! I also like various other music and songs. Not a huge fan of metal, rock or country music but some of those songs are good.

Are there any composers that you like in particular?

Avatar of kalutarachess

Definitely Beethoven

I also like most baroque pieces but romantic era pieces are also good too.

I listen to John Cage's 4'33" while playing so that I'm more focussed. Highly recommend this.

My vibe when playing in 24hr International Premier League events for Team USA Live is listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or Metallica.
I remain more serious while playing rapid games by not listening to music.

Oh hey, my suggestion did get made .

Anyhow, I like a variety of music: mainly edm when I'm trying to focus, but I've recently found jpop as just as good- wonderful beat and vocals without being distracting because I don't know what the heck they're saying, lol. I like kpop too but it gets distracting if the song is in English.

For reference, I've never lost a chess match when listening to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-V3zqvtbCM

I love listening to Christain music (mainly because I am one), but it does have to be some more upbeat stuff like Tobymac, Peter Furler, Consumed by Fire, Crowder, Matthew West and the two songs that I like by Forest Frank, which is "Your Way is Better" and "Heaven On My Mind" pretty much all his other stuff is really bad (subject to opinion), or if I want some older stuff then I break out the DC Talk. Or I'll just listen to electronic music with no words.

Hey I wasn’t really sure where to put this so if it’s in the wrong forum my apologies. I’m really trying to improve my chess but I find it really hard to study on my own, just wondered if there were any people who had the same issue and what they do about it?
