Club Redesign: Five questions to @jdcannon

Variants are the best is a regular participant in ONE WORLD League Multi Club Arenas. Right after today's challenge, I've got the following message via the pop up menu:

.

.

A few minutes later the club asked for a challenge as they want to continue participating. I've sent another challenge and the same message appeared immediately. What's this?

By the way: Would be great if accepted/declined challenges to Multi Club Arenas could be checked with Club Audit Log, wouldn't it?

Just an example for one of many delayed notifications: An admin of the opposing team accepted a challenge and reported the upcoming match:

I've took the screenshot right after the notification about this match came in ... thirteen minutes after the report in the forum.

If I try to "view" one of these outgoing and pending challenges to a Multi Club Arena, ...

... Chess.com redirects me every single time to the same challenge to another club:

.

For me this looks to be one more error in Clubs Redesign's code, which hopefully will be ticketed and fixed within the next weeks.

(Update) Redirection is created to the challenge on the bottom of the shown list of outgoing challenges, which is by the way sorted randomly (it's neither in order of sending challenges nor in the order of events start, which makes it a bit more difficult to handle). In fact, the described problem blocks organizers to manage pending challenges (other than ... deleting the randomly shown one until the one to delete will appear and to re-challenge the previously deleted ones 🤔). Sounds amateurish, doesn't it?

One consequence of the killing off of the Daily Match Top Players report is that one of my big clubs is losing experienced members.
This report was a way in which these experienced members could see how many points they have scored for the club and now there is no recognition of their past achievements.
One of our quitting players frequently queried the absence of the Daily Match Top Players report and has now quit the club, mentioning this issue as a factor in their quitting.
In a similar way, it is very demotivating to platers to sign up for a match and then see it declared as a draw when the opposing team can’t get the minimum players.
As said before, this is not a draw but a default win for the club who has achieved the minimum players & it is another demotivating bug for our members to see their efforts mis-categorised as a drawn match.

In regards to those scoreless draws, I have been wondering if chess.com counts them in the "winning precentage" statistics for each club. Those matches should not be counted, of course, since they were not actually contested.

That’s certainly another issue Jerry, but I recently saw my first null match posted as a nil-nil draw in Past Events and it’s not only incorrect, but also a bad look & demotivating for team members to see.

All they seem interested in is turning chess pieces into cartoon characters, dumbing down the game to attract youngsters.

The longer this goes on, the more clubs will simply die.
Mine are already mostly dead. Who needs competitions between suffering clubs?

Chess.com hasn't started yet to reduce the impact of the most important problems, that they are creating for a long time already.

Another misfire from them is the demotion of “ notes” from the club homepage in favour of “ chat “ . Since this happened my team has gone nearly five weeks since the last use of notes, and in that time the chat option has been used precisely ZERO times .

Yeah no one uses chat. Notes are way better.

I don't like chat all that much, but I don't think it caused the notes inactivity in your club.

To clarify, I'm referring to club chat. I don't want to be held responsible if you remove the actually good chat in the next update.

If you had read the post, it refers to removing the location of where notes is on the homepage. The chat button has replaced it and no one uses that. The notes you have to go search for that is why they are not used much anymore in the vast majority of clubs.

My major beef remains the messaging. I cannot scroll to the top of a page when I am at the bottom of a long messaging trail. How lame is that?

I did read it. If the club is active enough, members will generally just click the notif and therefore get to skip the less than satisfying frontpage. The UI can certainly be a bit annoying, but I don't think that's enough to cause around five weeks of inactivity (like the comment implied)

Before the change, we had regular banter on notes , it just took one comment and it would spark a chain reaction…. Now there is nothing. If you have to search for the notes , nobody bothers .

More than 1000 comments here, all these changes to the team page, and still the Daily Match Top Players list has not been fixed. It has been at least a year now. It is prominently displayed on the team page, but the data and rankings are all wrong. It is delightful that I can see my players ranked according to their Blitz rating, but the Daily Match top Players list is a tad more important. It acknowledges those who are supporting the team, builds camaraderie, and encourages participation in matches. Not sure what having everybody ranked by Blitz rating accomplishes. Guys in charge....please get your and our priorities right.

Absolutely agree.

Just a reminder to an old issue: If you create a Multi Club Arena with a start after an upcoming time chance, Chess.com's code gets confused:

This is a 24h Arena and finally it won't last 25 hours.

Update to this comment: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/club-redesign-five-questions-to-jdcannon?page=52#comment-96168725

about difficulties while trying to "view" challenges.

Learned today, that you can only "view" challenges, if there are no more than roundabout 12. If there are more incoming/outgoing challenges (what easily happens, if you organize a Multi Club Arena), you get always redirected one randomly chosen challenge. You can cancel them one by one and if the number is small enough, you'll finally have a chance to check a particular challenge.

By the way: After cancelling a Multi Club Arena, all pending challenges stay in the list. As there still is a limit of roundabout hundred pending challenges you have to delete them one by one. If you simply create a new Multi Club Arena, you'll will very soon see a list of redirections through all pending challenges.

Well, just a few months ago we still had a well working club design and no one really asked for urgent modifications. Clubs were already occupied by several severe problems, which Chess.com increasingly caused to them.

Now, we have a heap of shards and "Club Progress Update", which let us know, that there isn't a plan yet to patch it back up. Clubs are still occupied by several severe problems, which Chess.com increasingly causes to them.
