I agree
Comments with #number should be linked to that comment
Very good idea!
Still, the @ could be used too. And of course you could just react to a certain comment.
It would help a lot especially in forums!
Make #number take you in the specific older comment
Ex.
1 - Hi
2 - Hi, how are you
3 - #2 I’m fine thx
When you click it, it takes you to the second comment
Just like a link for a video or anything
Are you arguing that it's too difficult to just quote what youre responding to, like i did here? Or too cumbersome in long threads?
Seems silly to me, I'm trying to understand what this feature would really improve.
Having an extra step of clicking on a # to see what someone is responding to would be uber annoying and difficult to follow. Especially in threads of replies to replies to replies.
I suggested this as an alternative way, not an extra step.
Also not every people use quote, so I tought this could help
Why not insist every one use the quote ? Having an alternative just creates confusion, especially for those who cannot even begin to use the quote
It wouldn’t create confusion.
People use the #number frequently and it could have a functionality.
Quote can remain as it is, I’m not asking for removing quotes and adding this.

It wouldn't work long term. Members getting banned/muted and sometimes content is deleted and would break things
.
Also, people just posted numbered lists manually, would not want content linked.
You can, however, manually do it by grabbing the post link, and then add the link yourself.
Such as #8
Actually I didn’t consider the thing members could get banned or muted. Thanks for reminding me that
It wouldn't work long term.
It did work for the duration of v2 of chess.com. Yes, some members were banned and muted. There were some potential issues with that, but in general it works/ed. You'll notice the commentary on many tactics --> puzzles from v2 to v3 lost the #'ing system when the system upgraded?? from v2 to v3. This has made it very difficult to follow commentary in such forums. By choice of the Dev Team.

Can you post a link to an example? Because I dont ever remember seeing that.

When members are muted, the comments have always renumbered, so referring to a specific post number wouldn't have worked in the old code either. Unless they were later unmuted
The direct post link, does work, if the content changes location, and isn't muted content or deleted.

Use the Wayback machine. It's there.
@spacebux Sorry, the burden to provide proof isnt on the guy asking for it, you were the one making the argument, not me. "Go look and you'll find an example eventually" doesnt really help make your point...
Ive been on here a long time, a little longer than you even, and I dont ever remember seeing that in any threads. Im not saying you are wrong just that it would be nice to see an example.
But if you cant easily provide one, ill just assume my memory is correct. No problem.

You are obviously old enough to remember DOS. Do you remember the *GOTO label? It allowed a 'quick upward jump to prior section'. Sometimes a thread is so long that, having the number clickable to return to the original post (which can be 50 pages prior) would be helpful.
Quoting a repeatedly-quoted quote can upset people too. I think the concept is worth considering but I suspect the Developers can do one better ... when a User enters the number, it would be in a reference (number) field which would capture the unique 'referenced' post ID and would then 'go to the related post'. No amount of post deletions would stop the GOTO jump.
Just some thoughts.
* GOTO label was like a loop; returning to the start of a section to run it again. Also, I think the team has far more pressing issues which need addressing but this should certainly be added to the Project Manager's long and complex list of Things To Consider.
