The Nimzo-Indian rarely fails...

I play d4, but the best defence in my opinion is the Dutch Defence. Its a good opening that creates an imbalance in the center, and is scary the first time you play against it. I still don't like to play against it. Although I dislike playing against the Sicilian more, but its fun to use.

I'll stick to d4

p.s. After 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 don't play Nc3. Its better to have the c pawn in front of the Knight.

Good luck :)

assassin, the dutch defense isn't that great. even wiki says it. it leaves an open diagonal weak for your king, weakens the e5 square, and doesn't contribute ot development. why rush the f pawn advance

At that point I was trying it out, but I am going to stick to 1.d4,d5.

Opening choices like the Nimzo, King's Indian, and the Grunfeld (my personal favorite) are good because they are more modern. They are rising in popularity in recent years due to an increase in Masters using them. I don't mean to say that you shouldn't play openings like the Slav, I just mean to say that Modern openings in my experience work well.

The defense tht works best for me against 1.d4 is 1.d4,d5. This usually leads to a Queen's gambit. I prefer to answer that with the Orthodox Defense. Atleast, that's my way of doing it....
