Grunfeld

The Grunfeld is alive and well at the Tal Memorial.  Anand played it in both of the first two rounds.  From the relay I saw he only used like 20 minutes of his clock against Kramnik.  That is amazing home preparation.  When will we see the first decisive game?

I wonder if the prep he used in the game against Kramnik was the same as the prep he is using against Topalov, because if it was Topalov knows about it now, and if it wasn't he should be spending more time preparing for his match

Anand probably has something more solid like the Slav prepared for Topalov.  That is why Anand is playing the Grunfeld now.  Round 3: Anand as white beats Svidler's Grunfeld.

Round 4: And now Kramnik beats Svidler's Grunfeld.  If other players can play the Grunfeld and draw, while Svidler plays the Grunfeld and loses, then why is Svidler considered a specialist in the Grunfeld?

I think while Svidler is a good Grunfeld player, he is not as careful as other GMs, in fact he is quite reckless and experimental.

Anand's Grunfeld goes down in flames in Game 1 vs Topalov.  It is not necessarily the fault of the opening, though.  In terms of clock time, Anand got into a lost position quickly, but technically speaking the Grunfeld was not to blame.  Do you agree or disagree?

Well, as commented above, Anand should have chosen a different approach to 1.d4 against Topalov, seeing as he probably prepared to face Anand's Grunfeld. No worries though, I still think Anand is going to retain the championship, all he has to do is shake the loss off and come back with something strong tomorrow.

yeah, he actually got to equality with good chances. I would gladly play that line as black. just got to get that bishop out instead of the blunder and I think black can hold the pawn after an immense struggle but thats just me.
