Connecting Peg via Android tablet ??

I believe the chess.com programmers have their heads in the sand regarding communication with Pegasis. Fortunately Lichess programmers are hungrier. On another note, the new chess.com interface is not an improvement.

This is a screenshot I got from someone in chess.com support, showing the screen I should have. But mine is empty.  Same result for either v4.4.7 or v4.4.8 (most recent) of chess.com

When I am in Android>Settings I try to pair the Peg, but nothing visible happens, so I suspect that is my problem. BTU, the same device works flawlessly with all the others apps.

So, Question for you experts who run smoothly, do you pair P w/the tablet/phone in android settings first and if so what does the screen look like?  There are 5 of us with this exact problem.

@HHD3 - I do not pair my Pegasus to my tablet via BT, I only connect using the app(s).

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that you should not pair the board to BT at all.

But to be honest, I have been using my Pegasus less lately as the SOP has been working great and I love the bigger pieces.

That's really challenging!  FYI - Chess.com released v4 of its app both Android & iOS yesterday...worth a try. Re pieces not being recognized....those of us with this issue have seen it quiet down in most cases.  ALSO, I may have some news from DGT  in about a week regarding the feature set of their brand new app, written from scratch. Mine behaves so well with other apps I'm hoping this will be a big help.

That makes 6 of us: @geert_smit @wooksoon @neidertudorf @frhunter13 @PrezesNaszegoKlubu and @HHD3

@HHD3, you state that chess.com just released ver 4 of their app yesterday (31-Mar) but I have had ver 4.4.8-googelplay-211283 for a few days now (for about a week). Google Play store shows it was released 22-Mar 2022.

Where are you getting your apps from?

I just looked again, I deleted the board from the app, scanned for it and linked it again.

@Rsava, I think I have too. They posted this last night EST.

I have same android V from googleplay that you have.

Guys, I have experienced this issue as well.  I have spent some time on this as well, before I returned my android tablet.  Here is one this I did notice, and it may be worth it for someone to bring up to Chess.com. In all of the apps that do connect to the board (Chess Dojo, Chess for Android, DGT Chess, and White Pawn), they all have something in common that Chess.com app does not have.

If you go into the tablet/phone settings -> go to Apps -> under each of the above mentioned apps, if you open them, you will see under permissions, you have to grant it access to Location.  Chess.com DOES NOT HAVE THIS.  I suspect that this may be the underlying issue, as Chess for Android does not have this enabled by default and asks you to enable it.  Once you do, it can connect to the board.  This may also explain why Chess.com does not see ANY Bluetooth device what so ever.

Since I don't have my tablet anymore to confirm, maybe one of you can test and verify this by turning off the location permission in say White Pawn, and see if you can still connect to your tablet afterwards.  If it does not, then It very well could be this.

I hope this offers some help.

Great to see v4 chess.com for iOS supports Peg tear.png

@Dpbohr - I am on Android version 8.1.0 on a Samssung Galaxy Tab A (2016) Model SM-T580.

Dpbohr

@RSava - I was experiencing this on two different Android devices.  The first one was a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite (model SM-T220) running Android 11.  The second device was a Samsung Galaxy Tab E (Model SM-T560NU) running Android 7.11.  In both cases all apps (with the exception of DGT Chess as it would not install on the Galaxy Tab E) had the same issue.  And in both devices, under the tablet settings --> Apps --> Chess.com did not have a permission to grant access to Location, whereas Chess Dojo and White Pawn did have a permission to grant Location.

I'm an IT Guy, so I was just trying my best to troubleshoot what I saw.

phew! I nearly bought a tab a7 lite last week. glad I didn't!

Both my Iphone 12 and my Galaxy 7 can contact and play using Pegasus, the DGT App or White Pawn - on Lichess. I have frustrated myself endlessly trying to get either to play on Chess.com using all of the procedures others, DGT and Chess.com have suggested. No luck. My "Connected Boards" screen remains blank. Checkmate. The problem IS WITH CHESS.COM. They seem incapable of solving this issue, or of believing it exists.

Great input guys...I just added this to a note I had sent into someone very helpful. We shall see. This may be the break we have been looking for.

I am getting closer to buying the Peg. Is it true that with Android, the Peg works really well on Lichess, but chess.com has some issues?

Thanks

Don't let the stuff in this particular thread bother you.

Lichess is great w/iOS too.

thanks for the reply. I have only android but use both chess.com and lichess for playing.

OTB is where I want to improve and the Peg sounds like it will help use the online platforms to improve my OTB.

Ok, this is so frustrating… trying to give it a second chance. I’ve calibrated the board WITHOUT the pieces, then put all pieces on it, connected to White Pawn and not a single piece is detected… What am I doing wrong? Anyone can help or my Pegasus is just broken?

Does it detect the pieces when you use the DGT app?

Nope, I ended calibrating it again... and it started to detect them. Ohhh man, this is so weird :-) From good things, I managed to play first game on lichess via WhitePawn when not using a table... It seems that when I touch the table it starts to lose detection of pieces.

Does your table contain steel? If it contains steel, it could be that interfering with the board.

This might help....found this on another  thread in Books & Equip from @dennisdom:

"after opening the CHESS.Com and going to the settings try to connect the PEGASUS board, you're lucky if it is successful. But most of the time, it will tell you the board is not supported. Here what to do.

Stop on this part where the app tells you that the board is not supported.

Do not close the CHESS.COM app w

  1. Tap the bluetooth icon on the upper part of your phone or device to disable it
  2. Tap the bluetooth icon again to eneble it.
  3. Tap search and it will see the DGT PEGASUS board
  4. Tap the DGT PEGASUS board.
  5. Your device will not allow it but you will tap retry maybe 5 to 7 times. It could be lesser.
  6. close the bluetooth search but the bluetooth must remain enabled.
  7. Press the DGT PEGASUS. By this time the pairing will be successful.
  8. CHESS.COM will see the board. Try to play by enabling the board.
  9. This time it will check. the readiness of your board if the pieces are arranged properly. If the app says it cannot connect to the board. Do not close the app instead repeat step 1 to six.
  10. Press retry and you’re ready to play!"

Give it a shot, it didn't work me.
