Paul "gambitlover" Keiser wrote that I believe. I usually just play 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6. Paul is a great lover of unorthodox openings, so I suppose he doesn't mind playing against 1.Nc3 d5 which is fairly common.
How to open with the Halloween Gambit

I play 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Nf3 Nc6. I think that most people will play 1...d5 if you play 1.Nc3.

if you REALLY want to play it e4 is just sucky,black has too many moves,c5,d5,d6,e6,g6,c6
if you play Nc3 there is only d5 or black will be worst

I wanted to ask some experienced Halloween Gambit players how they play the Halloween Gambit. I read in the Unorthodox Openings Newsletter that 1.Nc3 is the easiest way to achieve the Halloween Gambit because black has fewer ways to deviate. Your opinions?
