I'm experiencing chess frustration and don't know what to do

Hey CU, new member here.

I made a post similar to this 1-2 days ago, but decided to delete it to protect my dignity. Anyways, that's not what i wanted to talk about.

I've been playing chess for 2-3 weeks now, and my rating is freakishly low. I always lose the games I play, and I never win. I keep getting spanked by levels lower than me, and that's saying much for someone with around 200-300 rank. It's confidence breaking.

I have no idea what to do, and I want to give up. If you guys have any advice, please let me know. frustrated.png

Play for a couple more years, then complain about progress...

Maybe give some ACTUAL advice for a beginner?

Get good, then complain about progress...

That would help as well

Don't give up, just keep playing, watch youtube, and do a quick blunder check every move and see if any of your pieces are undefended or if your opponent can checkmate you. But also there is no point complaining about progress after like 2 weeks.

Hope it wasn't my fault...

The same thing happened to me when I started playing on this site. It will take time, and effort to get better. It took me almost a year of study before I started winning more often than losing. so don't give up!!! Use the video's on chess.com, YouTube and watch the chess streams on twitch or ChessTV.

Don't get discouraged...

open up your center pawns and try to move your bishops and pawns towards the center of the board and take your time moving.

One other tip...... look at where your opponent moves........then......see if it is attacking you in some manner.  Then try to defend that grin.png

Just keep playing. Get used to the movement patterns of the pieces. Then you should learn some chess principles so you know what to do at what time. It's very important to learn tactical themes like forks, pins, skewers etc. A way to learn this is by watching youtube. There you'll see tactical ideas and see what to do in the opening phase, middlegame and endgame. That way you get a clue off what to do at what time.

My account previously turned 1 year and my daily rating is 1700, blitz and rapid 1600+. I didn't learn to play chess more then two years ago and already made great progress. I won in over the board games and a tournament.

Little advice: Don't play too much Blitz. You want to achieve a good understanding of the game and don't want speed. Speed will come the better you understand chess because you'll know what to do. In longer games (Rapid or Classical) you observe the position much deeper and will understand chess better trough that.

Last thing to do: Look at opponent's threats and don't just play something because you have to play something. Play something that improves your position somehow(winning material or activating your pieces).

Also always blundercheck before you actually play your move

If this guy couldn't make it past this thread because of my comment, he wouldn't have made it far anyway.

The essence of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics is revealed, as centillions of intellectuals dedicate their lives to the study of the abstract board game, chess. Emmanuel Lasker, Max Euwe for instance. Mathematical research is, in my not so very humble opinion, somewhat more worthwhile, THOUGH DIFFERENTIAL Galois theory WILL Speak for itself if and only if there exists a pseudorandomly generated covalent bonding between it and the likes of Garry Kasparov. Not only is epistemology good for our healths, it can completely wipe people aspiring to become philosophers of Stanford University lectures.
