I got onto my school chess team this year 💪

lib_rl

Kudos to @KiriyamaKazuo @EloRaiser51 @hhart10k @cegalleta @Gothenburgess @MrBennyRed - you are real Improvers and and really make the road to chess success much more fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Also shout-out to our coaches - @Fischwitsch @CoachJKane - helping everyone is really hard work, thank you for that <3

cegalleta

Honestly, everyone's been really kind, I'll give a special dedication to each one of the people that have helped me the most:

@TheLearnerofGames

You're possibly the most motivated person here and deserve the place in coach-champs 100%. I have no doubt you'll hit a 1,000 soon and will probably sky rocket after that. I can't invent excuses for when you beat me anymore haha

@hhart10k

You're an empathetic and intelligent person, disciplined as I am. With a bit more practice you'll play as well as you did in our daily match in your rapid games.

@Thunderstrike3

Most higher rated players are annoyed to play with lower rated people but you are always there to help everyone, you're a strong player without the ego that comes with some. Hope you reach your goals too!

@armina_bel

I was really salty after you beat me in the sunday tournament but you're really nice and a great player, I can't get mad at someone so nice. Hope we get to play more!

@Vertemes

I'm sorry I can't always play with you but, same as with hhart10k, once you translate your knowledge into your matches against time your rating will sky rocket, hope you don't get frustrated if you feel you hit a wall. I think you'll be a great player and you just have to keep trying.

@KiriyamaKazuo Everyone here has read your name I suppose, such an active member of all the forums and always in a good mood to help, I think you definitely deserve some public recognition.

@Square-Peg I guess you've been a bit busy but you're a good person, some would have taken offense on losing and be mean, as I have faced before (people calling me a cheater or a smurf account when I play well or mocking me when I underperform). You made me hate the caro-kann a bit less haha, and our practice sessions helped me build a strong repertoire against it too . Btw: A 2,000 elo (1700 fide) fell for one of the traps we practiced and beat him otb!

And lastly, I don't know if he joined, but @Wenger0 has helped me improve since I was 600 elo (in this game Chess: Wenger0 vs cegalleta - 126388203029 - Chess.com), explaining my mistakes, playing with me and taking me in weird sidelines of my openings, everything out of good will. Such a nice person and a truly underrated player, I think he could easily gain 200 elo if he played more often. He doesn't participate in online activities out of introversion I guess but he's truly been the biggest impact on my chess performance along with another friend, but he's part of my uni's chess team so he's too busy to join.

Thanks @lib_rl and @cegalleta ! I have heard from several members of the Improvers Club that you both have been very supportive and encouraging, and I've certainly witnessed such examples as well.

Geelse_zot

Shoutout to @Fischwitsch (Coach Dane) for recommending some good literature on pawn structures / breaks / central tension.
I picked up "Chess Structures - A Grandmaster Guide" on Chessable and have been playing along the material on my physical board, as suggested by Coach Dane.
I also discovered that replaying games on a physical board is a good method for me to relax.

Fischwitsch

Thanks for sharing your chess journey with us, @Geelse_zot !

DoctorStrangeandDitto

@ThatOneLaoPerson has been very inspiring, and has given me tips on my playing style. I hope to see him in more tournaments!

Chopped1234

I am so proud because I was able to reach 1460 when just a few months ago, I was 1100. I really want to thank all the streamers I watch for taking the viewers step by step into their thought process, so I could understand what a grandmaster thinks like, and apply it to my own games. Doing that really helped. Also thank you GothamChess for teaching openings to subscribers extremely well. Hopefully by the end of the year I can hit 1700

You need a massive applause for all of your uplifting words and the positive statements . Words cannot describe how appreciative I am of you always saying kind words. To be honest, I wish we could play more but it is what it is! And the members of the forums are so helpful. To think that we all give help with no reward expected as well is amazing. About CoachChamps there may be a tiny problem but I may sort it out.

You are the guy who deserves the spot in CoachChamps, not me lol! And anyone who decides to join the forum, continue your journey strong and remember that we are there to help.

The absolute last thing I have to talk about is my upcoming school chess tournament. I feel confident now thanks to the people who have half-coached me.

Anyways, good luck in your chess matches and get some Elo and BRILLIANTS!

039f

I got 2 brilliants in a row in a game! I am SO SO proud.... Because I'm only a 1070 elo! 😅

Thanks coaches @fischwitsch and @CoachJKane for your support!

I've also made my school chess team. Kudos and peace! draw diamond

Honestly, it's been really fun to read the notes and posts of everyone in the improvers club and it's motivated me to play more. I'm honestly a player who picked up chess pretty recently and at time it's been quite frustrating. It's been an interesting journey as when I first picked it up I was 200 in Blitz, 500 in Bullet and 800 in Rapid. Now, I've became a solid 1700-1800 rated player in blitz and rapid and a consistent 2000 in bullet. Here's a funny game I played as a 1300:

https://www.chess.com/game/live/91914059067

However, I have quite a bit of difficulty translating my growth in bullet into improvement in rapid and longer time controls. This has lead to me having poor results in longer time control team OTB tournaments where I play as board 1 against titled players occasionally and 2000 rated players minimum. I really want to perform better and improve so I can help my school team win at least one championship before graduating.

I would be grateful if anyone would offer tips or coach me so that I can improve my skill in rapid and reach 2000.
