Hi guys. At the start of the year, my puzzle rush survival record was 42 and I set my goal at 60. I crossed the 50 puzzle mark and now am at 53.

Well howdy everyone! First off, no I'm not cocky, thinking that I am the king of chess. I chose this username because my favorite color is red, my favorite letter is A, and the most important piece (not the most powerful - that's the queen, but, I'm a guy, so I can't call myself Queen) is the King. Not super creative, I know. But, it does the job and I like it. *shrug But, if you guys have suggestions for any other names (especially cool and/or funny ones!) then please DM me!

About me... I'm sometimes a goofball, sometimes formal, and sometimes other me's! I'm a young adult who still lives at home, so I've got competitors in my family (I'm co-teaching my sister). I have as many hobbies and passions as stars in the sky. Everything from music (singing, piano, Eguitar, classical, dancing, rock,...), to business (I'm an entrepreneur and inventor), to science (biology, anatomy, human health, taxonomy, agriculture,...), to visual arts (I'm a photographer, I'm a fashionisto, I love to paint...), to academics (I love every school subject: I have a favorite number and branch of math, I adore grammar & syntax, I'm always down for a debate...), to video games (MK8 on the WiiU, Asphalt 8 (although it's been so heavily commercialized *sigh), Candy Crush Saga, Nintendo Land, NeoBall...), to sports (goooooooolasssooooo! (That's football as it's known internationally, soccer as it's known in the USA), tennis, swimming, freeze tag (trust me, with the right people, it's a tough sport), etc...), and soooo much more.

I am a chess aficionado! I regularly play around 1500 according to my Game Reviews, but, my actual rating can't get that high! My favorite piece is my brain. YES, PEOPLE!! My Brain is the supreme piece of my games! But, for those who simply cannot accept it, then, (for you guys) my next favorite piece is the board. All the other pieces mean nothing without it. What's more, its design of 64 squares, light and dark, is ingenious and allows for so much variety in movement and strategy for the other pieces - it is revolutionary and powerful in its elegant simplicity. My favorite variants include Bughouse/Crazyhouse, King of the Hill, and, 4PC. I HATE DUCK CHESS. Whoever invented that was a very very evil man. Oh, how I want to roast that duck!!! But, I love most of the other variants.

As for my chess journey: I have been playing nearly my whole life! My father introduced me to the game when I was 6, more or less. My mother nurtured me, fueling me with competition until I could finally defeat her (and earn it! She never gave me an empty victory thankfully). Then, I moved on to playing against my father, but, I kind of fell out of the game. I would play on and off for a while (and during this time, I heard about chess.com). We moved and my father got me back into it again. But, we also have a friend who is around 2400. Being the competitor I am, I could not rest until I beat him, so he got me obsessed for the past 5 years. And, I finally did it!! I'm not as good as him, mind you - but, a win is a win!

As for my chess goals this year:

  • I want to play in an actual OTB tournament! Believe it or not, I've never played an official game - just online and with friends/family
  • Study more chess books and coursesIncluded in this is starting my Lichess account.
  • Bring my ratings to over 1200. I want to reach this minimum rating for all my ratings - be a well-rounded chessman.
  • Start a YT channel to monitor my progress! I think that would be fun. It would hold me accountable to my viewers, plus it might inspire some to make an improvement journey themselves! I might start a blog in tandem.

Speaking of YouTube channels, my favorite ones are GothamChess (of course) and Sadistic Tooshi! I love that guy, he cracks me up!! That brings me to my favorite GMs. Fabiano Caruana is my favorite current GM. My favorite prodigy is Faustino Oro. My favorite historical players are World Champions Fischer, Capablanca, Tal, & Judith Polgar. Speaking of titles, I also hope to eventually earn my Candidates Master title! Though, I don't expect to this year.

I'm quite active in several clubs and in the DPC (Daily Puzzle Comments). I seek to learn from others and help others improve... and not just in chess. If anyone wants advice on anything or wants to give me advice on anything, please reach out! And, I'm always down for a game!!! (If you're nice enough, I might even be willing to play you duck chess)

I bid everyone a happy and successful life and a fulfilling chess journey. Keep Chessing & Stay Brainy!

You should make one account each. The only other ways I see this not being as bad as smurfing is if you two are playing on different time controls, or only one of you plays rated games, but even then, you might get your account closed, because your account will look extremely suspicious with games of two different people with two different levels.

New chess player with a 251 rapid rating. I don’t really have a rating goal just to steadily improve. Maybe 500 would be my first goal. I’m going to play 30 minute games, lessons, puzzles, puzzle rush, and maybe a book or two. I just saw the beginner improvement plan.

I am a 12 year old kid that started playing chess in January 2023. Since then, I have reached 1600 in blitz and 1700 on both Bullet and Rapid chess. My goal for this year is to reach 1800 ELO on all these ratings, and to improve in endgames. If I reach these goals before the end of the year, then I will push to 1900.

Bingo bango, Pablo! I'm a grammarian belonging to the bow-tie marginalist order! (I've got serious ideological beef with the flaming liberals - my grammarian counterparts are far too loose in my opinion) 🤩🧐😎

Hi! My name is Neev. I am 13 years old and have been playing chess since I was around 6. I was around 750 Elo at the beginning of 2023, which I was very impressed about. I came second in a small inter school chess tournament, which gave me some confidence, at around mid 2023 (around 800 Elo). Since then, I started playing a lot of blitz games until September (or near September) 2023 and got to 1100 Elo. I switched back to playing rapid, and now I am around 2100 Elo chess.com (I am around 1700 Fide blitz after my one rated fide tournament, though I have played other ones but not enough games).
My Mom, brother and I have had a tough 2 years and we are still having a tough time, both financially and emotionally, due to some family events [edit: and I get lonely at high-school quite often]. My Mom was so kind to give me diamond membership once. However I have basically gotten to 2100 being self taught (my Mom doesn’t play chess - she gives me motivation and support and I can say that she is the one who got me to 2100 Elo).

Moving on to my goals, now that you know a bit of me…

I know this may seem a bit crazy, but I am aiming for 2500 [edit: 2300 is more realistic and my new goal for now] rapid Elo chess.com - I believe I have chances to succeed since I study a lot (during the school holidays I have spent around 10 hours studying or playing games on chess.com [edit: per day]. My main goal in my play is to improve my one move mistakes, since sometimes I calculate one lines really deep, but end up just making a mistake. Also, I would like to improve my endgame by learning pawn endgame theory and bishop+knight mate (still haven’t got that one right).

My goal to grow up is to actually become a chess player or something related to that. However, I know there are a lot of challenges in my way I need to solve. And most importantly, other people also find some problems too in their chess journey.

I like reading the stories of others! I hope you all succeed in your goals. If you have an essence (hope; confidence; faith etc) then that is all you need. Good luck!

Hi. Late (now 61) starter started about 3 years ago but have spent considerable amount of that time in hospital, not leaving a lot of time to study or play. That's sort of hard when you're comatose or heavily sedated.

It also takes quite a bit of work to get back to levels already achieved and I go through rough patched. I'm in one right now.

I'm also not the slightest bit interested in speed chess so please point me somewhere else.

Avatar of MrBennyRed

Hello @Whisper. It's good that you are not interested in speed chess as an improver, as slower time control usually leads to better improvement in calculation, as you have the time to think. One possibility on chess.com is to play in time control 30 minutes. This should leave you with a lot of time to think. You can also look in your area for local club playing classical chess, which is usually 60 minutes or more per game. I wish you the best with your health, as well as your chess!

Avatar of Whisper

I play 30 minute games, after players from a certain area are in mostly in bed.

I play 3 day correspondence games with my friends list.

Hello guys! My name is Kyle and I am a Portuguese chess player living in England. I started 1 year ago around the age of 12 and have been obsessed with it since. I have played with many people in real life but mostly win or draw. Around 3 months ago, I was 500 Elo but have recently jumped to 800 Elo with my most recent match having an accuracy of 93%. I am looking for a tournament around the area of London to participate in. For 2025, I would like to increase my blitz and bullet ratings(right now it’s only at 300). I’ll see you guys at the end of 2025 with hopefully better ratings and skills!
