IOS Curse?

I know this topic has been beaten to death but I’m still looking for a little clarity before I dump my Pegasus.  I’ve read many threads and I’m still a little confused.   

I’ve waited and waited for IOS/Chess.com integration but as far as I can tell it still hasn’t happened.   Am I missing something?   Accurate, right?   My question is this:  Should I wait longer or just give in and find an android device to use with it?  I really hate the idea of buying a device just for this reason, but am getting tired of waiting.   The DGT app is terrible, and White Pawn is ok but I’m not terribly invested in Lichess.  

One other question:   Is it everyone’s understanding that the competition is roughly similar in terms of IOS/Chess.com integration?   Im not a big spender but at this point would consider another expensive e-board if it works with my existing iPhone.  Primarily looking at the ChessUp or the Square Off Pro.   So far as I can tell neither are working with IOS/Chess.com

Hi, as far as I'm aware, chestnut air works with iOS. I bought a Samsung Tab A7 lite for chess. I'm primarily on iOS and Mac.

Having communicated via email >12x@ with chess.com and DGT since the formation of this club on Feb 4, reporting on our club, etc, I have been similarly frustrated. However, neither company has grown tired of my persistent inquiries. One of my key reasons for founding this club was to get iOS Chess.com Pegasus support, and I am disappointed as superadmin in failing to represent us. It shouldn't be this difficult but we are in startup/crowdfunded waters. Dedicated to be sure, aware of their competition yes, but with limited resources to deploy.

Took my 1st plunge w/Android tablet from an all-iOS world ~6 wks ago to circumvent the annoying iOS issue, using White Pawn, Chess for Android, Chess Dojo, Acid Ape, and a few others I can't recall. Looking at various sources like HIARCS dev forum, some developers, Chrome extensions, and other places, I've settled on the realities that 1) iOS makes it harder n our case than does android for developers, and 2) chess.com is not as open/friendly to outside developers. Presumably this enables them to have tighter control.

We are ensnared in a crease where DGT & Chess.com decided to have chess.com handle the iOS Pegasus support. Chess.com swears that it is on their list but not near the top. DGT told me 5 days ago that their brand new app (admittedly android only) is very near production release. I feel I have engaged with both companies more frequently and effectively than anyone else and I believe that the new ground-up DGT app will deliver a better experience. At least both companies are still engaged. 

Having said that, I am expecting my ChessUp (1.5" squares, 2.8" King, led lit like Peg but w/colors and better beginner-style functions) delivery in a month or so. For me, SOP is too similar to Pegasus (except for being larger but rollable), and not free of glitches either. I find the rollup function gimmicky but many folks seem to like it.

And most everything else getting any attention has ~1" squares like my 1982 Fidelity Excellence museum piece, which is 2-fingered-grabbing teency. 

iOS has much greater market share in the US than globally, and android makes it easier for developers. I remain optimistic, but have lowered my expectations from any manufacturer cuz this chess board mkt is not big enuf for anyone to buy a superyacht.

@HHD3 - Appreciated.   Your breakdown aligns well with my overall understanding, which is that there really is no definitive answer.    I do like the Pegasus, but am a little tired of only ever having success playing bots.    If thats what I wanted, I wouldnt have bought what I thought was a more "sophisticated" board.   I almost pulled the trigger on ChessUp yesterday due to frustration but found the IOS situation there to be similarly murky.  

I never would have thought it would be this difficult for these companies to align.   It seems to me it would be in there best interest.   Given Chess.com is dragging their feet, Ive wondered if it is because they haven't dismissed the possibility of their own board.   Maybe we'll see a Chess.com official board sometime soon - ha!  

I have a DGT bluetooth board (wooden one) and indeed there is nothing to do with on on Mac/iOS. I backed the ChessUp project, and I'm also hoping a lot for an ChessUP iOS/Chesscom integration, but it seems that it's mostly a Chesscom decision to open to other platforms for integration.

Since 99.9% of Chesscom users don't care about any OTB playing, it looks like it will take many many years to be able to play with a board and an iPhone

I have an iPhone and I use my Square Off Pro all the time on chess.com with it

And does it work flawlessly?

It has always worked for me.

I know people who play online using a regular board and piece set with an appropriate time control. Maybe that is the answer for some seeking to use an external board and piece set while playing chess online.
