Medical leave from daily chess.

What if a player is not able to play because of health? The player should give leave if it is not healthy enough to play. Then a player should be able to send the medical description that he/she is not able to play by the doctor.

Not for small reasons like cough ,cold, fever etc.

If your problems are so bad that they're preventing you from playing chess, do you really care about the ratings of a few open games? Besides, it would cost them money to have people process those requests. This is a terrible idea.

If your condition are so bad that you can't play chess, it means that you have to visit doctor. If doctor just write a line that he/she is not able to play and the disease name. Then he can just take a photo of the description and sent it to chess.com.

That sounds really childish in my opinion. You gotta deal with what you gotta deal

And why would chess.com hire people to spend time processing these requests? Again, this is a horrible idea, just stop.

Mate. It's online chess, it's not your career. This is a terrible idea - if you're ill and can't play, just suck it up and deal with the fact that you're going to lose some rating points. Either that, or use vacation time if you have it.

Plus, I'm pretty sure your doctor will be super impressed if you waste their time with "please sir, can I have a doctor's note with an explanation for why I can't play online chess?"

Isn't this what vacation is for?

Avatar of Andrea

Yes!! I always put myself in vacation modus when I cought the flu.........mostly too late and my rating already droppped....but who cares.

In addition, hey, this are private infos, even to my employer I do not need to say why I am sick or name the desease. Protection of data privacy is also mandatory in online chess tongue.png

lol. Not to be too mean but this is a horrible idea. To be honest I would feel kind of embarrassed asking for a doctors note so I wouldnt lose a chess game. Besides it would cost too much money for chess, com to process these lol. Whats next will people be asking if their mother can write chess.com a note excusing them from their tactics training for the next few days lol

Avatar of Andrea

lol.......yes!!!

I will provide next time a written attest when not making the tactic trainer regular

You are not a premium member so I know you don't have a lot of vacation time if any.  If you are asking for yourself, you could post on your profile that you cannot continue play until further notice due to health issues.

Edited and added to.

Speaking from your opponents point of view, I wouldn't want to be waiting for someone who is on extended vacation, it isn't fun waiting and waiting for your opponent to move.  Sometimes it is just better to quit your games, post your status on you profile and close your account until you are recovered.

This is the point/purpose of Vacation time. If you need to step away for a short time you can already. If you have some major health issue that is going to pull you away for longer than the vacation time would allow, then you need to make your health a priority and just resign your games. I would hope that you would think that your health is more important than some rating points that can be gained back later on when you are able to play again. An option like this that could let players pause games for months to an indefinite amount of time while they deal with their life would be abused. Some tournaments already take years to complete because of people abusing vacation, just think about how long they would take with health leave. If you like this site and want more than the 30 days you can accrue then pay for a membership, they are not that expensive. You can accrue 60 days with gold and 90 days with platinum. Bottom line, take care of your self. Your health is more important than your chess rating. You only get one life, but you can always get back rating points.

Can you imagine the resources required to to run down the legitimacy of all those bad health claims? Good grief.

Exactly.

I think that when you have some medical problems and you run out of vacation time you can always give chess.com a good reason why you need extra time and I'm sure they'll give you the time

Avatar of superdrewe53

Please sir i have the black death, can you give me 200 rating points to make me feel better 😕

Avatar of kraunak60

What if you are too sick like you are paralysed for more than 90 days
