You gain more points the faster you solve a puzzle. The minimum amount of points you can gain for a puzzle is 5. I think you can gain up to 15 if you solve it quickly, but that also depends on the puzzle’s rating compared to your current rating.

Thank you for your kind advice
. Do you perhaps also know why a "lost" puzzle is penalized so strongly? If I'm reading "between the lines" of your remark then I'm guessing that the loss (negative points) is perhaps equivalent to the maximally possible positive points which I could have won if I would have solved the puzzle very quickly in very short time? For example: If a puzzle is worth 11 points theoretically, then I get -11 if I'm failing it, but I get only +5 points if I'm solving it too slowly in too long time?
Hello, I'd like to introduce myself as a new puzzle club member . I have this following question to the other members who are already longer in the club: Do you perhaps know why chess.com penalizes "lost" puzzles stronger than it rewards "won" puzzles? For example: I've just played 2 puzzles one after another: for the 1st one (which I solved) I've earned +5 positive points, whereas for the 2nd one (in which I made a mistake) I've been given -11 negative points. I'm struggling to understand the rationale (or system) of chess.com's puzzle scoring algorithm. Any advice will be appreciated: Many thanks in advance !
Generally, the majority of the puzzles that chess.com gives you are below your rating, so you gain less points for getting them right than losing points for getting them wrong.
You also lose points for speed, but usually it's not too harmful unless you're spending like 3-5 minutes on the puzzle. They're meant to be solved in 1-2 or less than 1 minute usually.
It's similar to how you'll lose elo more if you lose to someone 100 or more elo lower than you, but if you lose to someone 100 elo higher than you, you don't lose much if anything at all

Hi,
I'd just like to add (all of above is also valid) that one loses more rating when failing a puzzle at an early stage as opposed to on the last move (unless it's a 1 move puzzle
).
This is especially evident when failing a puzzle say on the 5th of 6 moves as you may receive a +5 score anyway.
Good luck with your puzzle solving 8)
Sometimes I've noticed that the chess.com server on the other side just "forgets" that you've just solved a puzzle successfully: You immediately receive some plus points which are shown on your screen - but when you come back to the the puzzle page again after a short while later, then you're back to your previous (lower) score as if the most recent successful event would never have happened. I've reported this bug to the software developers of chess.com, and they have admitted and confirmed that this but sometimes occurs. To me this has happened already more than 3 times, such that - all in all - my real puzzle score would be at least 15 points higher than the score that is shown on my profile page.
Has any member of this club also made similar experiences ?
