Pieces released while dragging

I've had several instances where I've been holding a piece and thinking about where to put it, only to have it released. I've drawn lines for a while and my mouse button doesn't seem to have any issues, and all the lines are continuous, so it shouldn't been my mouse. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

Ok - you may not believe me here, but what we HAVE heard from some people is that their mouse gets low on batteries, and then in an effort to save some power, it DOES do a temporary release or power down! Are you using wireless or wired?

My mouse is wired, so it can't be that in my case. I can't rule out that it's the mouse for 100% but my tests haven't shown anything like that nor did I notice it in other applications

Try changing your piece movement settings from drag to click.

This works, believe me, I've had exactly the same problem. It took a script my wife wrote in excel to convince me the site was not broken (boy, it is frustrating) that I was indeed releasing the mouse button. As soon as my shaking hands have mastered the click move idea, I'll start playing again, but I practice as often as I can against the computer and offline.

Click and move is good for longer time controls but if you're ever in a time scramble it will hurt.
What actually worked for me was to stop holding the piece while thinking.
A change of habit. "Don't click until you see it."

It's exactly what I need for shorter time control. When in bullet, I hold the piece over where I want to place, but still have to option to abort if the opponent plays something different from what I expected and it's faster to hold and release than to click twice

Yep, that's 100% true, I have really bad habits too meh.png that I should change, I'm a little gray in the beard though, not so easy but I should try.
