You spawn facing south, you turn back north and walf a few blocks, and there's a start to a cave... it's hard to explain that cave system. When you reach a dead end, just use one bit of tnt, and then you'll find an opening. Eventually, you find your way into an epic ravine/cave system... there's tons of iron and coal, but I couldn't find any surface diamonds just flying around in creative, and not much redstone or gold or lapist.

A somewhat interesting seed: "seabutters" without the quotes. Spawns you by water with a forest, extreme hills, and plains nearby. Lots of sheep in the plains. Also has a very small village near spawn.
