Profile Stats - glitch?

Not sure if this is a glitch?  Played a game against this player and checked their stats, as I do from time to time with different players.  Noticed his ratings don't seem right.  Bullet = 1800 (only 1 game played which resulted in a loss), Blitz = 1599 (1 game played, which resulted in a loss), and Daily = 1500 (2 games played, which both resulted in losses).

Doesn't make much sense to me.  Perhaps I'm missing something?  I don't think he's cheating or anything of that nature.  Just don't quite understand how his rating is so high if he's only played one or two games, which resulted in zero wins and only losses.

For privacy and respect, I have purposefully blocked the person's username and any identifying information.  Support staff can message me directly and I will send them a screenshot of the user's name.

People are allowed to choose their level of experience with chess. They can choose between Beginner (800 rated) average (1200 Rated) Intermediate(1400 rated) Expert ( 1800 rated)

Now i think this guy chose the expert level when he started. So he got the 1800 Daily rating. He lost two games, and had a high Glicko RD, so he lost a lot of points from 1800.

@MainframeSupertasker  Thank you very much for the explanation.  Makes a lot more sense now that I know that.  I joined Chess.com in 2009 (10 years ago this July) and don't recall whether or not I was asked to pick my level of expertise.  I don't remember doing so, but it was a long time ago, which makes it difficult to remember.  Perhaps this is a feature they implemented after I joined?

Most likely he said he was an expert but wasn't really.

@jdcannon  Fair reasoning for the situation.  As I mentioned in my post above, I was unaware or forgot you choose your skill level when starting on the site.  If I had known that, I would most likely have not created this post.  But I did learn something new about the site, so it was not at all in vein! happy.png

I appreciate your quick responses to the Chess.com Beta Club forums.  You seem to be very consistent and helpful resolving issues.  It's nice to see a great sense of community on Chess.com!  Also, thanks to @davidkaufmann for your work.  The staff on this site strive really hard to improve this site on a regular basis and most - but sometimes I feel not enough - members appreciate your dedication.

As I have begun participating in the forums recently for the first time and reaching out to staff with concerns of things that may need to be fixed, or suggestions how to improve the overall user experience on Chess.com, it has genuinely given me a much greater appreciation and understanding of how much work is involved with maintaining and improving features on the site.  It has evolved so much - for the better - since I joined almost 10 years ago! happy.png
