- High-Priestess (Crossover from DS's Variant Trove) - Only potentially used in final round; rules will be revealed later.
- Telepath (Crossover from DS's Variant Trove) - Only potentially used in final round; rules will be revealed later.
(There will be no Guards in this tornament.)
All players must have the same number of pieces, and enemy faerie pieces must be placed in either
- the exact same files, creating a mirror image, or
- the exact opposite files, creating a perfect 180 degrees flip from each player.
The following pieces are considered "replacement" pieces: if they're not used to fill the beginning empty starting positions where the Witch and Guard would occupy, they may alternatively replace a non-faery standard piece of like-power in their starting positions:
- The Amazonka may replace the Queen.
- The Werewolf may replace the Queen.
- The Time Thief may replace the Queen.
- The Lumber Jack may replace the Queen.
- The Ball may replace one or both Rooks.
- The Barrier may replace one or both Rooks.
- The Zombie may replace one or both Rooks.
- The Bulldog may replace a-file and j-file pawns. Or, it may replace all pawns. (Optionally, White may place additional Bulldogs on a3 and and j3; and Black on a6 and j6.)
- Arhcbishops and Chancellors may respectively replace Bishops and Rooks. (In this tournament, if one replaces, both do.)
In this tournament, game-start positions can range widely from creatively original to conventional. (Clarification - Yes, Capablanca's Chess is a valid Bulldog game-start position!)
In the final round, The last two-remaining contestants have the option of choosing from 1 or 2 deathmatch games:
- Magician's Deathmatch in Bulldog
- Connecting-Tree Deathmatch

Contestants will be paired with an opponent, and both will discuss (preferably in PM) to consent on two or three (or four) pieces to be incorporated into each player's army in their match. Contestants then inform me as to what their Bulldog game-start position is, so that I can prepare their game.
One more note: Diagrams that I render, if I am hosting your game, will be 3D. (You do have the option to render and post your own diagrams for your match.)

Update, 2/1/2024 - The Xiangqi Cannon, Chancellor, Archbishop and Amanzonka have all been removed from the list of available Bulldog pieces for this tournament. In order to preserve the tradition of using celebrated variant pieces specifically invented for the Bulldog Chess community by its dedicated members, I feel it would only be fair that these 4 all-well-known, famous variant pieces, and standard Chinese Chess piece, be left for another time; another tournament.
That way, members can only possibly choose from member-created Bulldog pieces. Just to honor the hard work you all have put into creating these fantastic pieces. ![]()
