This game, I already went over the game review, but I honestly don’t understand how I could’ve survived that concentration of pieces on my rook…https://www.chess.com/game/live/164469161742
TY to anyone who helps me understand it

My first game playing the Grunfeld defense!
I’m black
You crushed them, they just made a lot of blunders. The one piece of advice I think to give is try not to block in your bishops in the opening with moves like 3. D6
, I would have never found the sequence of moves that wins material. But basically, you can threaten checkmate with the queen and knight, and when they block, you can unpin your queen and threaten checkmate again, so then you can take the rook.

Yes, but like is there any process of thinking or any way to help me see that in a real game with time pressure next time? Cuz that’s how I can really improve….ty for your explanation though, it erases doubts about what the intention behind the moves are lol

HeisukeKogami, sorry, I'm not a good coach. I would recommend puzzles or lessons.

Here you go and I’ll include a video link below my diagram to something else relevant:
This video shares a sample game illustrating why you shouldn’t give up the bishop pair so easily. It is definitely a more subtle concept, but it is smaller things like this that really makes 1600-1800 range players more serious threats over the chess board and your 1500 range is getting really close to that!
