Should Premove Be Banned????
@gocapitals I primarily play 30 and 60 second Bullet games.Â
I have played 10 second games before, but I find them somewhat pointless because as you pointed out if you just do a bunch of premoves and avoid a check you have a pretty high chance of winning the game on time. I have never been able to checkmate an opponent in a 10 second game, nor have I ever been checkmated in that time frame.
However, I have been able to checkmate opponents (not always, but sometimes) in a 30 second Bullet match. And I believe a big reason why I am able to do so is because of the premove feature. If that was removed, it would make games less than 60 seconds (30 seconds ideally) quite challenging to find a checkmate before the clock expires.
Premove should always be turned on for time controls <= 1 min. That's my humble opinion...
Â
I agree. ![]()
what you said about 10 second games is why i like to play them, cause i most likely win.
most people don't use premove

Because they don't know it exists, and that's their problem. Premove is an extremely beneficial feature. Just try to play a 1 min game/30 sec game without using premoves
i do sometimes, but premove can be great for people like me who aren't that talented at chess. I am with you on the fact that premove is an amazing feature
Â
i didn't put "most people don't use premove"as a reason why it should be banned, i put that to show it takes advantage of others and it wins games, which is good
Then perhaps you should've chosen a better title (so that people understood your words the way you want them to)
chill stop insulting me i have only been on this site for a month!
Â
Dude if premoves are not your type, play higher time controls or time controls with increment. A lot of players support premove as it has a lot of uses than defects. So you might feel being insulted rather than knowing that they are just supporting it.
Â
I agree that if you are not comfortable (yet) with premoves, adding a small increment (maybe 1 - 3 seconds) to the original time control would help you ease into the feature of having premoves at play.
I've been playing Bullet games (mostly 60 seconds and more recently trying 30 second games) for a couple years now. And it took me quite a while to adjust to the fast pace of the game. It's not for everyone, but the more you play over time, it should help you adjust.
Also, @gocapitals if you have not already, I would suggest adjusting your rating range, if you haven't already. This would allow you to play people closer to your current rating, just in case you are playing people rated way above you. If you're not sure how to do this, see the picture below. Just go to settings and then you'll find the option.
Â

And I guess you've reached to the conclusion that it has more positives than negatives, @gocapitals?
yes i already had before i created this.
i am comfortable with premoves, because i use it alot. however, being comfortable doesn't necessarily mean i'm good at it!   i know how to change opponent rating, but id rather playpeople higher cause i win a lot against them (shocker) but thanks for the tips. i usually go to open challenges though.

@gocapitals Winning a game of chess is good, but you may not learn as much in 10 second Bullet games, if you're simply premoving your pieces and running your opponent's clock down.Â
No offence, but anyone could do that and over time would be more comfortable running the clock down. It seems like an overall waste of time to me. I realize you're still new to the site and are exploring different features and settings for games, etc.
I would suggest maybe trying 2-0 Bullet games and easing yourself into the Bullet format, and as you become more comfortable, trying 60 second games.
I was horrible at Bullet when I first began years ago, but overtime, I have learned to adapt. It's like learning a new skill. You're not expected to adjust to a new skill right away, it takes an incremental approach for most people.
If you'd ever like to try a Bullet game of 30 seconds or higher against me (non-rated. for fun!) feel free to message or challenge me. Good luck with your games @gocapitals and welcome to chess.com ![]()
but i am better at bullet than blitz or rapid🤨
Â
So you're better at playing out moves very fast without timing out rather than actually beating your opponent at chess.
Â
Ikr, took the words right out of my mouth

Â
@gocapitals  That doesn't really make much sense.Â
Chess is, by nature, a game of skill and tactics, as well as determination, among other qualities.
If you're simply "beating your opponent by playing a really short timed game, then I would say that isn't truly playing chess, but rather just moving pieces faster than your opponent. You will not advance your prowess in chess by repeatedly playing these types of games.Â
If you haven't already, I would encourage you to try some video lessons.
I have currently completed up to the Intermediate level and have found the lessons to be extremely helpful so far. My plan is to complete all of them over time, as I am not in a rush. I want to take my time and absorb the information and possible go over completed lessons again before advance to the more challenging (next) level.
but you are good at bullet though, so i guess your right
