strategy development

Hello friendly folks!

I had a question about learning resources.

Does anyone have any good resources (or know of any) on learning how to develop a strategy in Chess?

I know a lot of people say you need to attack with a strategy which makes sense. But how does one learn to do that effectively? I do enjoy reading and watching tutorials but please bear in mind I am only 1000 rated, just a novice happy.png so rating appropriate resources grin.png

Anyway thanks in advanced guys ! You are all awesome people!

I would say don't worry about strategy until you get to 1400. Just do tactics regularly and learn some basic positional principles such as knight outpost, rooks on open files etc.

Oh I will definitely keep practicing my tactics happy.png . Thanks for the suggestion <3

I'd recommend Daniel Narodistky's speedruns - he gives really useful advice, and usually starts from around your rating level so I'm sure you could find something helpful happy.png

Dan Heisman's YouTube channel is useful for beginners. There is a strategy section.

Another useful chess channel is James Bartholomew's YouTube channel, where he specifically made lectures about chess fundamentals for beginners.

Another YouTube channel is chessexplained, but that is more advanced. There is a section for strategy there too.

As far as books, Silman made a book called "the amateur's mind", that for what I understand, It's supposed to preapre you to his other more famous book "How to reasses your chess", but I didn't read it so I can't reccomed it. I read how to reasses your chess and It's great, but I'm planning to read it again because there is still much i have to learn from it. Good luck with your games and your study.

Edit: final one, if you don't have much time to Watch YouTube Videos, Jazarov has a YouTube channel where he usually makes shorter videos about chess strategy and fundamentals :

Yeah look for the climing the rating ladder series and others like it.  Good players playing games and analyzing them as they make the moves and explaining why they make the moves.  Its great to get ideas.

Once PoG Champs gets there there will be lots of players like Anna coaching the participants.  You can learn alot in those as well.

Try the Chessbrah series. It shows how to progress through ELO ranges by following simple rules. The rules improve, your ELO improves. Chessbrah demonstrates this by starting with a fresh low ELO training account, and only uses his rules... even if he (a GM) knows there is a better move. He talks you through it. Pretty amazing really.

Enjoy!

@Snugpugz, agree! Love sharing knowledge and learning new things about chess on this platform.

Speaking of sharing, there is a user who is helping a few clubs join forces to promote longer time control micro tournaments (multiple per day!). This may help you or others progress through ELO ranges. You can reach him at: https://www.chess.com/member/sylvaincourtemanche

Tell him I sent you :-)
