Suggestion: Daily Variants

Just like the title says - wouldn't it be cool to have stuff like king of the hill in daily?

I mean this probably won't work for bughouse, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for the other variants!

Thanks,

Leon

Why not work for Bughouse?

grin.png like the idea!

Even though I think regular chess would still be the most popular, I agree that there's no reason why this wouldn't work.

I mean it is still possible but a big part of bughouse - especially at the higher levels is about who is up on time.

for bughouse it could be xx days total time. I have always wanted daily variants but I didn't think it would happen

You can agree with your opponent that you are playing KOTH or 3-Check and then play like a standard game, and we tried that at vote chess.

Not possible with crazyhouse although we had a game in the Variants forum where we were posting the moves and resultant position.

With bughouse I had a game of solo turn-based bughouse in the bughouse club. I lost but it was fun and instructive to play.

A lot of us would like daily variants and have been asking for it for a while.

Some slower arranged tournaments in live variants is something I've been asking for since I arrived here. I create a club Slow Variants for that purpose. This site is obsessed with 3|0!

Yes, or at least 5|5

@Leon_Likes_Chess  Good suggestion! happy.png  I agree.  It would be nice to be able to play different chess variants in daily games, that right now, you can only play in live games.

They won't give it to us though because this site is obsessed with high-speed.

So they add puzzle rush because that's tactics done at speed.

They arrange more speed chess championships.

Somebody who is American told me that the reason they like 0 increment is because Americans hate draws. Therefore if a game is going to finish drawn they like some kind of tie-break, e.g. a flagging contest.

In American sport, no match ever finishes tied. So if a baseball match is 5-5 at the end of 9 innings they play more until there's a winner. Similar with any other sport - extra quarter in American Football. Whatever they 'd use in basketball etc.

In soccer have they shoot-outs.

@NelsonMoore  Hockey games (NHL league - Canada and USA) end in ties sometimes.  Occasionally  they will have a shootout, but only under certain circumstances.  If regular season games end in a tie, then it's a tie, even after an overtime period, then it's a tie.  No shootout.
