we can play some games tomorrow, I'll prove to you the gap is not really that big, it's just a matter of polishing details

Avatar of nooslam

also it took me just under a year to go from 1300 to 1800, which is normal, so if you're going to be critical of me, at least provide accurate information. also practice accounts are against chesscoms policy, and why would your smurf be higher than your main? that doesn't make any sense. also no one is preparing for your openings dude. you nor I are at the level of chess where people prepare for each other specifically.

I emailed chess.com about it, everyone can have a second authorized account if you email support, just read the terms and conditions. Regarding prep, I do want to win the event as a personal goal so I'm not risking it. I'm higher rated on that account because I don't have to deal with rating anxiety, it's also easier to grind to a higher elo if for every win you get 20 points lol, since I'm actually improving I don't get crushed 1700-1800s that easily anymore.

Last but not least, if you want us to be understanding of you, you might want to step down from your pedestal and stop mocking people over their elo, you did it to me, you did it to Rohan, leave people be. from 1400-1800 imo it's just a matter of consistency, but that 'sacred eternal knowledge' you claim to have I'm afraid isn't real. I'm perfectly capable of losing to a 1300 in a bad day, probably you too.

there is no "sacred knowledge", I never claimed it nor did i mock anyone for their elo. i simply said to rohan that if hes 1800 tilting all the way down to 1300 then he is throwing games which is absolutely true. i was suggesting that hes FAR BETTER than that. not worse. there was never a pedestal, i wasnt even rude. it was yall that attacked me for suggesting that an 1800 should not be dropping to 1300 LOL

No you're rude for saying 1300s know nothing about chess, not for saying 1800 should not be dropping to 1300.

I'm pretty sure you just have more elo and ego than me but not chess skill.

Hi all!

This is a space where all of us can share our frustrations and listen to each other without judgement, asking/sharing good advice to handle such situations.

Let's try to keep the environment welcoming for everyone and not resort to spreading negativity, that just does the opposite.

Thank you for your collaboration, hope you have a fun time in your improvement journey!

how tf did you drop that far? 1300 knows basically nothing about chess compared to 1800 you had to be throwing

1800s are bad at the game, theyre like 1400-1500 and most likely lower when its a USCF rating

Avatar of nooslam

18 14 and 15 are literally different numbers and we were not talking about uscf. i agree that 1800s aren't very good but they're obviously much better than 1300s

I'm genuinely devastated - he was probably my favourite chess teacher on YouTube and a role model and inspiration as a person. There are no words for this situation but my deepest condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

Call your loved ones today, just talk with them, no need for anything significant or meaningful. Just call them, tell them you love them.

This has been such a harsh year.

My frustration: being treated like a guinea pig by players with a much higher Elo rating (I'm currently around 300 Elo). For example: I played a move at 7:22, he (1000+ Elo) played his at 4:44 and the next move at 1:48. I feel like he wanted to win the trophy for checkmate with less than a second to go. He didn't succeed. There were 3.9 seconds left. Since I'm honest and direct, I sent him a message to tell him what I thought of him, and I added that I had succeeded with 0.00.6 seconds left. Now I choose a maximum Elo range of +200.

Hey that's a good decision. Just play your against your level for now. You'll definitely improve and you will get your chess aims very soon! Good luck!

I was just thinking this morning: It's challenging when a training partner turns out to have different goals, or just a different approach to training. I'm realising that trying to be a little bit flexible about my training ideas is important, if I'm going to be able to train with someone. I can be slightly rigid in my thinking, because I am used to doing things on my own, up to now. However, I can see I'm going to have to learn how to cooperate more, and use a wait-and-see approach, before rushing to judgement about how training should be done, since there are two people involved in a training contract (albeit an informal, non-binding one). This might benefit both me and any training partner I work with, best, to be more open to different ideas. My plan for training isn't necessarily the other person's, and I should respect that.

I am trying to get to 1000 elo, this is my goal for the year, currently down in the low 400’s and whenever I win I find I play really well for my skill level but whenever I lose it’s like I just keep losing. The highest I’ve gotten so far has been 500 elo, it lasted for a short period of time but I know just feel like I can’t climb the rating ladder. I realise this is early to be saying this but it feels like I’m stuck.

I've taken a look at your games, it seems like most of your games are ending with 2:30+ time on the clock. Take your time, I have the same problem trying to speed through games.
