This is a nice one, enjoy!

f4

sfriedman71

...f4 is what I would play, too. But, I feel like Philip is teasing us there is a less obvious move somewhere.

justapawn2

e2 looks pretty good to me, even if they just push their pawn... we get our Queen first along with first check.

panstall

e2 although I think both moves win

Spochman

Guys, this is guessing- please provide variations for your moves.

ChessDLeroo

Surely we'd be worried about that passed pawn - I'd take on G6 "check" and then rook to B2 - I think

flevour

Spochman, how would you suggest analysiing this position?

AstroEddie

I agree with justapawn2. Generally, you quickly push a passed pawn.

waynedickinson2

rook to f5,with the intention of trading rooks so i can promote the pawn on b3.

waynedickinson2

oops that would be good for white, not black

waynedickinson2

if i was black(and im not)i would play e4

gfaq

1 .. e2 does not win

2 Re5! f4

3 g7   f3

4 g8Q  Rf1

and here you can check repeat and the king can not get to safety. My first tests tells me you can check mate the king easily with no chance to crown the pawn.

1 .. Rg2

2 g7 e2

3 Kf7 e1Q and it goes to victory

 or

3 Re5 f4

for me it is a lost position for white.

So I would say that 1 .. Rg2 is the move for black to win.

I haven't analysed f4 a lot but it seems pretty close to e2, only with the difference of Re5 and then Re8 pinning the black pawn and freeing the way for the black pawn to crown.

f2 may be!
